Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely execution of the full corporate payroll process. This individual will be experienced in full cycle payroll, group benefit management, WCB year end reconciliation. Working knowledge of payroll legislation across various Canadian provinces and U.S. is required.

About the position:

The Payroll Specialist will work closely with Senior Management, Operations, Human Resources and the Finance department.

Your highest priority will be to process payroll on a bi-monthly basis and ensure legislation compliance across all Canadian jurisdictions.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with great interpersonal skills who is approachable and willing to reach out to employees when required. This position requires a person able to be flexible and succeed in an environment that during the exploration season is very fast paced with virtually all staff working remotely. We operate in multiple jurisdictions in Canada and in the U.S., the individual must be organized and willing to identify the unique requirements each may have on our operations. The individual must be flexible and be ready to jump in to support and assist when there are employee inquiries.

Job Requirements:

Review and process semi-monthly payroll for centralized payroll consisting of various divisions and pay types
Previous experience with Canadian and US Payroll (previous Mexico payroll would be an asset but not required)
Review of all new hire, employee change, and termination entries in payroll system
Prepare employee records for payroll processing in a multi company, multi currency payroll environment
Provide a high level of service and support to all employees, including HR and Finance
Process payroll through Payworks software
Research, recommend and present new payroll software programs to be more robust and to align with our company needs
Ensure consistent compliance across all locations relating to payroll legislation
Respond to inquiries and requests from employees, management & government agencies
Assist employees with questions about their wages, taxes and/or deductions listed on their remuneration statements as needed
Support the implementation of a new payroll and time tracking system for all US and Canada Companies
Prepare payroll related journal entries to ensure timely accounting
Audit reports during payroll processing for benefits, including prepayments, refunds and any additional deductions for arrears
Prepare and process WCB year end reconciliation
Prepare Year End T4/W2 reconciliation preparation and filing
Group RRSP and 401K Administration
Prepare labour cost reports as requested
Must be able to maintain a home office environment
Other tasks and responsibilities as required

Skills Required

Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) an asset
5+ years full cycle payroll experience
3+ year group benefit plan management
Experience within a complex payroll environment with multiple pay types including hourly, salary, bonus pay outs and accommodating employees for travel pay
Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite and Payworks
Excellent communication skills
The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with multiple groups in various locations
The ability to professionally handle confidential matters and show appropriate level of judgment
Being approachable, flexible and able to think outside of the box
Strong sense of ethics and integrity
Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes within the organization

Assets:

Previous working experience using Payworks
Previous experience working with mining or exploration companies considered an asset
Previous experience working with processing payroll in Mexico considered an asset
Previous experience with migrating and implementing new software programs
Knowledge of accounting functions would also be an asset as assisting the finance may be required
