Position Title: Continuous Improvement Engineer (Leadership Position)

Department: Operations

Location: Winterset, IA

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position is a hands-on, results driven role that will be responsible for building and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement. The person hired for this position must prioritize and drive peformance improvements that will have a significant impact on business results, as well as delivering operational excellence to customers. The expectation will be to challenge the status quo, provide effecting coaching to staff, and embed a mindset of CI to achieve performance excellence.

FOCUS:

• Performs the evaluation of current state, design of future state and implements best in class lean processes to improve overall productivity. Develops and executes improvement action plans.
• Manufacturing Processes: Drives implementation of appropriate lean tools, e.g. VSM, Standard Work, Pull Systems, Variation Reduction, Visual Controls etc. to maximize productivity and throughput while minimizing lead-time and WIP.
• Transactional Processes: Implements the appropriate lean tools, e.g. VSM, Transactional Process Improvement, Variation Reduction, etc. to maximize productivity and minimize lead time in the front and back office areas.
• Vision/Strategy: Participates in the development of the Lean Roadmap in support of the company’s overall strategy and improvement in KPIs.
• Profitability and Growth: Assists in identifying and supporting opportunities of process improvement to enhance profitability and growth.
• Possesses strong analytical problem solving skills, with demonstrated ability to execute 8D methodologies, identifying root cause through 5 Why approach.
• Identifies relevant CI training needs, develops CI training program, and delivers training.
• Builds an employee engaged work environment.

– Develops tracking tools and measures to support CI initiatives- Develops business case justification for projects and initiatives- Leverages resources and shares best practices across all facilities- Provides and teaches CI tools to team members- Establishs and drives productivity pipeline roadmaps across departments and facility- Tracks and analyzes the CI process and manufacturing matrices.

• Benchmarks performance across the facilities and industry to identify areas of opportunity.
• Challenges the status quo to find ways to optimize manufacturing performance to deliver superior results.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• 10 or more years experience in a Continuous Improvment in a medium-size manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of and familiarity with a variety of lean tools included but not limited to: VSM, Standard Work, Pull Systems & Kanban, SIOP, Daily Management, 5S/Visual Management, 3P, SMED, TPM, Transactional Process Improvement, Variation Reduction Kaizan & Six Sigma.
• Ability to read, analyze, interpret and present data
• Must be able to read and understand production drawings and routings
• Must be able to read and write technical documents and specifications.
• Must have a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Ability to speak professionally with internal and external customers at all levels.
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills included the ability to promote cooperation between all functional groups within the organization.
• Must possess solid judgement and critical thinking skills; not afraid of complex problems.
• Ability to easily manage multiple tasks in a well-organized and highly detailed manner while working in a fast-paced, perpetually evolving, relationship-driven environment.
• Self-directed and driven to show measurable success.
• Computer skills with basic applications (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.) Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of Lean Tools and systems. Experience with ERP systems, Oracle experience a plus

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• Black Belt certification desirable (not required)
