Position Summary:

The New Teacher Coach plays a vital role in the development of new teachers in ways that not only inform practice but also help further Grow Public Schools’ mission of eliminating the opportunity gap in rural Kern County. To accomplish these goals, the New Teacher Coach possesses a deeply held belief in the growth potential of teachers and their students – recognizing that the most impactful element in student learning is having an effective teacher.

The New Teacher Coach will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback. The New Teacher Coach will collaborate with other coaches as a member of the district wide Instructional Leadership Team.

This is not a supervisory position and does not include evaluation of colleagues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports teachers in designing effective lesson plans aligned to the network scope and sequences with specific, measurable, and standards-based aims; provides feedback on teachers’ process and performance.
• Supports teachers in establishing a well managed, positive classroom culture that embraces the school’s PBIS framework.
• Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
• Weekly cycles of planning, observation, and feedback for a caseload of new teachers.
• Contribute to the network Instructional Leadership Team by analyzing data to design and provide professional development, classroom modeling experiences, and mentorship aligned to the organization’s core model and coaching vision.
• Provide input on the direction and implementation of GPS’s professional learning initiatives and academic model.
• Assist teachers in understanding GPS’s mission and core values.
• Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning.
• Support teachers to use data to improve instruction on all levels.
• Assist teachers with increasing access to the curriculum by attending the strengths and needs of priority groups of students (multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and foster youth).
• Support teachers by helping them develop effective pedagogical strategies including continuous improvement, reflection, and revision of lesson delivery.
• Develop coaching plans for a caseload of teachers aligned to the Grow Public Schools coaching outcomes.
• Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
• Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
• Collaborate with site and district leadership (e.g. principals, ILT, Director of Learning and Innovation, and Coordinator of Teacher Residency) regularly to calibrate staff support efforts.
• If applicable, responsible for mentoring requirements related to successful completion of teacher induction or residency programs.
• Other relevant duties as assigned

• Willingness to work collaboratively and share instructional ideas and materials with teachers.
• Knowledge of, or experience with teacher growth and development.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills, strong subject matter competence and English language development strategies.

Required Education and Experience:

• Valid clear CA credential or commensurate experience leading teachers
• Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred

• A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience across elementary and middle school grades
• Ability to demonstrate development and delivery of high quality instructional professional development to K-12 teaching faculty.
