Avionics Integration Engineer

Summary: Greenfield Engineering is seeking an Avionics Integration Engineer to support the VH-92A test and evaluation efforts at Patuxent River Maryland. Candidate will support all facets of design, development, and installation of avionics modifications. Candidate will interface with external groups to develop installation requirements. Candidate will be responsible for current and evolving configuration of the test assets as they go through updates, validation and verification.

Primary Duties:

• Conduct research to drive design of VH-92A installation packages in support of aircraft test modifications necessary in support of test or fleet efforts.
• Use cost, schedule, and performance constraints to develop installation packages that meet test team and fleet needs.
• Document proposed changes using the establish VH-92A Engineering Change Request (ECR) process which involves: capturing specific requirements, creating block diagrams, establishing cable and wiring harness numbers, directing technicians on test team to create electrical and mechanical drawings of the modification, routing all drawings for signature, creating ECR flight clearance requests, capturing weight and balance information, updating aircraft electrical and mechanical drawings to track configuration changes and supporting the flight clearance process as required to document the modification.
• Coordinate with the Structural Engineer to provide strength analysis of proposed design for flight clearance.
• Provide guidance and determine workload priorities for team of technicians for multiple projects in support of flight-test efforts.
• Provide guidance for procurement of items needed to support VH-92A Testbed Support Facility (TSF) so that rapid response to PMA-274 projects is possible.
• Provide feedback on performance of TSF technicians on a yearly basis and recommendations for additional personnel when required.
• Attend weekly TSF and Test Team Scheduling meetings for coordination of on-aircraft test events in support of modification efforts.
• Develop aircraft modification schedules and provide them to VH-92A MSL and aircraft scheduler.
• Have the ability to obtain a Yankee-White (YW) Access Clearance for unescorted access to the VH-92A aircraft in support of duties.
• Manage and maintain current aircraft configuration for both EDM aircraft to ensure that all electrical and mechanical drawings for test team changes are properly annotated and archived.
• Establish procedures for creating, routing, numbering, and documenting changes to electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Establish processes as required to ensure configuration management of test team drawings.
• Work with VH-92A Mission Systems Lead to establish process-driven methods for training the test team on VH-92A Engineering Change Request process.
• Provide approved electrical and mechanical drawings of aircraft modifications for submittal to NAVAIR Airworthiness, PMA-274, or FAA as required.

Qualifications: A qualified incumbent would at minimum possess the following skill sets:

• Familiarity with Avionics and Mission Systems
• Experience with NAVAIR test and evaluation
• Experience with technical data packages, drawings and diagrams
• Systems engineering principles
• Excellent communications skills
• Interpersonal Skills
• Familiar with NAVAIR Airworthiness Process

Security Clearance Required: Top Secret

Telework: This position may be eligible for partial telework, it will require an onsite presence at the Patuxent River NAS.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering field or computer science from an accredited college or university. (REQUIRED)

Experience: SENIOR: A senior level person has over ten (10) years of experience performing work related to engineering discipline. A senior level person typically works on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently. A senior level person may oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
