Greater Good Studio Hiring for Director of Operations Job at Chicago, IL Full Time

Greater Good Studio is seeking a Director of Operations to join our team! This critical leadership role is responsible for financial sustainability, operational strategy and execution, and cultivating a culture of inclusion. Key responsibilities include financial management, human resources, business operations, resource planning, and policy and process improvement.

Please note that presently, and until January 1, 2022 at the earliest, our team is working remotely. Because we intend to resume in-person work once it is deemed safe, we are seeking candidates located in (or willing to relocate to) Chicago.

Additionally, we are unable to provide sponsorship to applicants who require or will require a work permit.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Management

• Provides overall financial planning and management oversight
• Provides regular reporting, preparation, and/or related recommendations regarding budgeting, sales forecasting, profitability, and billing
• Oversees current and cash flow planning for the fiscal year
• Validates and leverages data (eg. staff utilization and billability, project time and expenses, project debriefs and impact evaluation inputs) to advise on strategic decisions such as hiring, project staffing, and space planning
• Conducts day-to-day financial management activities: invoicing, accounts receivable, supporting bookkeeping

Resource Planning

• Supports resource planning and transparency across the studio to ensure timely completion of project deadlines to meet milestones and budgets, and to ensure workloads are balanced across team members
• Supports project leads in proactively anticipating and mitigating for studio-wide staffing complexities including competing project milestones, capacity conflicts, changes to scope, and time off for vacation/sabbaticals
• Maintains knowledge of the project pipeline as well as the studio’s capacity in order to manage available resources and make strategic recommendations on future supply and demand

Organizational Development and Human Resources

• Advises the Executive Director on organizational structure, company growth, team culture and organizational change
• Directs and/or coordinates all team weekly and monthly check-ins
• Leads and manages all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, contractor recruitment, informal and formal performance management (such as 1:1 sounding boards, annual 360 reviews, and professional development goals), learning and growth, compensation and benefits, and employee relations
• Fosters and maintains an inclusive and antiracist culture, including pay equity and transparency; employee wellness, agency and belonging; accessibility; a sense of abundance, appreciation and intentionality; self-awareness and mitigation of bias; and transparency in decision-making
• Liaises with all service and benefits providers, including time tracking, payroll, accounting, etc.

Policies and Process

• Oversees and manages the improvement of company initiatives, policies, practices, and processes and supports the continual development of an internal “practice” within the firm
• Maintains and updates internal policies to sustain and strengthen our mutually-supportive work environment
• Participates in all studio-wide operational strategy decisions
• Reduces risk and promotes safety for the company, employees, and partnering organizations
• Integrates and oversees evaluation of company values, mission and theory of change into the overall operations of the firm
• Works across the organization to make appropriate processes more efficient, effective and equitable

Facilities and Administrative

• Oversees building facilities including maintenance, repair, and upgrades
• Supervises all operations staff including full-time, part-time, contracted and interns
• General administrative work, special initiatives, etc.

Key Qualifications

• 5+ years operations experience in a design consulting, professional services or nonprofit environment
• 3+ years human resources experience including recruiting and hiring, performance management, and cultural stewardship
• Excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience with multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, client services, resource planning, employee management and/or benefits administration
• Excellent communication, negotiation and mediation skills; ability to resolve and integrate the needs and perspectives of multiple stakeholders
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills, demonstrated by previous successes leading and managing complex projects and teams
• Experience leading DEI or other organizational change initiatives
• Experience developing new and better operational practices through applying a social equity lens and/or codifying learnings from past experiences
• Experience living, working and/or volunteering within under-resourced communities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with financial reporting and annual budget development
• Ability to articulate an analysis of structural racism and intersectional systems of oppression
• Ability to define and implement new structures or roles that support shifting business needs
• Strong working knowledge of consulting and social sector regulations and legislative guidelines
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $87,000.00 – $92,000.00 per year
