Job Title: Education Director

Reports to: CEO

Job Summary:

As a full-time employee, this position requires a dynamic, energetic individual who has a personal and professional interest in the education of children preschool age, and school-age, with emphasis on school administration and program development. Must be able to respond to the need for varied teaching and learning styles of both teachers and students while managing strategic programming according to national and local standards.

The position must maintain Director’s credentials and assume the Director’s responsibilities at all times.

Responsibilities:

• Manages and oversees Preschool and School Age Supervisors.
• Managers escalated concerns regarding students, parents, and classroom teachers.
• Conducts interviewing and supervising staff.
• Responsible for implementation of educational programs, assisting with the development of curriculum for preschool and school-age programs.
• Report monthly attendance to VPK.
• Maintains and renews VPK contract annually.
• Works closely with staff to ensure training and development of employees are high quality.
• Ensures museum educational offerings are high quality, age-appropriate, and supportive of Sunshine State Standards.
• Consults/collaborates with local educators (school teachers, library staff, other informal educators).
• Handles all Human Resource issues with teachers on a daily basis. When the situation becomes too high level, Director will refer to HR to handle high-level concerns.
• Responsible for an effective communication plan for parents and the community, including but is not limited to, a parent newsletter, overseeing effective parent/teacher communications, and parent meetings and events.
• Assure that Creative Curriculum and all aspects of preschool programming meet national and local preschool standards and accreditation boards.
• Collect curriculum biweekly, develop school-wide benchmarks for each age group, and serve as liaison to the Pinellas County Licensing Board.
• Provides appropriate resources/tools necessary for program delivery. Uses appropriate technology to advance and support educational activities.
• Conduct regular observations and develop plans of action, if needed, to ensure the quality of care for the children.
• Ensure that the program promotes the development of each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development, in a nurturing environment.
• Collaboratively plan, develop and coordinate the use of resources/materials used in program delivery. Assist with program evaluation.
• Give school tours, and assist with the enrollment and registration process.
• Return emails and voicemails within a timely manner (no more than 2 business days).
• Notify any parent if a child has not arrived by 10 am.
• Plan and conduct weekly level 10 meetings with supervisors.
• Requires to model exemplary professionalism and work ethics at all times in both verbal and written communication. Whether handling students, parents or speaking to a supervisor.
• Substitute in the classrooms and on the vans as needed.
• Positive advertising and recruitment of all educational programs at all times.
• Works in partnership with all departments to assist others when needed.
• Attending public events when applicable.
• Provides support to the CEO, the Board of Trustees, committees, and to any support groups involved with community initiatives. Assists CEO with orientation and activities for Board Members when needed. Assists CEO with special events when needed.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university preferred or a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a school or 2 years of teaching experience in a museum setting is preferred.
• Management experience
• Experience in program development and instructional design, knowledge of preschool curriculum design, standards, and benchmarks.
• Knowledge of education methods and materials appropriate for preschool-age children; skill in presenting ideas and information to children and parents and teaching staff.
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Experience using Microsoft Office package
• Capable of handling parent, teacher, and student concerns adequately and effectively.
• Available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including some weekends, holidays, and evenings as required
• Must have 40 clock hours and literacy training completed in accordance with Pinellas County License Board.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,000.00 – $46,000.00 per year
