Grace Place for Children and Families Hiring for High School ESL Teacher Full Time

Summary/Objective:

The TESOL Specialist’s goal is to facilitate English Language acquisition for ELL students in the after-school program, focusing on the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for academic and social purposes. Under the leadership and guidance of the Director of School-Aged Programs and the High School Program Manager, the TESOL Specialist will be responsible for the planning, implementing, and evaluating of literacy interventions designed for select ELL students in the after-school program. The overall objective of the position is to provide academic supports for students to reach the goal of high school graduation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning

• Review student data to determine a case load of students who will receive services
• Create a schedule for individual/group intervention sessions
• Prepare lesson plans and materials for intervention sessions based on research-based practices
• Create formative assessments to track student progress
• Create method for collecting progress notes

Implementing

• Meet with individuals and/or small groups to provide literacy interventions targeted at ELL students.
• Maximize program time to meet the needs of the identified case load
• Communicate with classroom teachers about student progress and/or ways to support students when they participate in the larger group
• Collect data for progress notes
• Set up/Clean up room and supplies before and after program
• Build rapport with students and staff to build a love of reading and learning

Evaluating

• Use formative evaluation to track the progress of interventions
• Review student data to evaluate the interventions
• Communicate progress notes with program manager and teachers
• Adapt future instructional practices based on observations and data

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in education is required
• Professional Educator’s License with TESOL endorsement is required

Experience:

• At least 2 years of high school teaching experience is required
• TESOL experience is required

• Demonstrated understanding of the developmental and language acquisition stages
• Broad understanding of different cultural, linguistic, and religious groups
• Demonstrated best practices in TESOL instruction
• Demonstrated ability to plan appropriate interventions
• Demonstrated ability to assess student progress and create instruction to support student needs
• Collaborative spirit to work with classroom teachers
• Strong communication skills- both written and verbal

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $26.00 per hour
