Do you want to have an impact on the future of public library service in Saskatchewan? Do you want to hone your policy development skills and consensus building abilities in a complex environment? If so, the Provincial Library and Literacy Office is hiring a 7-month term Public Library Coordinator.
As the term Public Library Coordinator, you will:
Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate public library services in priority areas including services for people with print disabilities and multilingual services.
This includes collection development, workshops, training and other service activities.
Identify patterns and trends, provide innovative solutions and make policy recommendations to senior leaders.
Assess library system performance using established metrics and make recommendations for system improvements.
Write a variety of detailed, accurate and clear policy documents and technical materials, including strategic policy documents, cabinet documents, annual s.
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge of public library legislation, policies, board governance and local government relationships.
Knowledge of current social, political, economic, and technological trends and issues that are relevant to public libraries.
Strong relationship building and problem solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong research and policy analysis skills.
A valid driver’s license to be able to travel within the province.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a Master of Library Science or an ALA-approved equivalent. This education should be combined with knowledge of public libraries, preferably with a Saskatchewan context.
Preference for indigenous persons, visible minority persons and/or persons with disabilities. Bilingual, English and French, will be considered an asset.

Abilities:
Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate public library board and staff training and development programs and strategic planning sessions. Promote continuing education and continuous improvement among branch staff and stakeholders.
Establish active communication and trusted relationships with stakeholders.
Plan, develop, facilitate and lead meetings and events to achieve consensus and establish/maintain partnerships.
Understand and articulate the strategic direction and mandate of the organization, aligning current operations with the future direction of the ministry.
Persuade and influence senior management, stakeholders and potential partners by articulating the implications of proposed policy/program/legislative/partnership directions.
Analyze trends and issues, engage with the research literature, identify and develop options and solutions, and make policy recommendations to meet ministry goals and client needs.
Assess library system performance using established metrics and make recommendations for system improvements, recommend new metrics or outcomes-based evaluation techniques.
Organize and manage multiple projects taking into consideration conflicting and changing priorities and within established timeframes and budget.
Write a variety of detailed, accurate and clear policy documents and technical materials, including strategic policy documents, cabinet documents, annual s, budget documents, project plans, business cases, requests for proposals, feasibility studies, recommendations and s.
Travel and stay overnight as required.
