Ombudsman is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, mandated under the Ombudsman Act, 2012, receives, assesses, and investigate complaints from citizens about provincial and municipal government services, Crown Corporations, and publicly funded health entities. Through file work and public/public sector education, the office works to ensure government accountability to the citizens it serves and to promote fairness in the delivery of public services. As Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner, operating under the Public Interest Disclosure Act, the Commissioner investigates disclosures of wrongdoings and complaints of reprisal from provincial public sector employees and helps to ensure the provincial government provides a workplace where wrongdoings can be safely raised and appropriately addressed.
We have a challenging opportunity for a decisive, highly-motivated individual with investigative and collaborative problem-solving experience for the position of Assistant Ombudsman. An Assistant Ombudsman uses the principles of administrative fairness and analyzes complaints about government programs, and ensures the government provides a workplace where wrongdoings can be safely raised and appropriately addressed.
The successful candidates in this position will have superior writing and analytical skills and will enjoy working independently and collaboratively to drive results under competing deadlines. To manage complaints, disclosures of wrongdoing and complaints of reprisal, the candidate of choice will possess the ability to use high levels of discretion, empathy, active listening and a trauma-informed lens to gather confidential, relevant, and sensitive information. They will assess the information gathered, identify issues and work proactively to resolve conflicts and challenges in a collaborative way. This position will also be required to deliver educational workshops and public presentations. The position is available in either the Regina or Saskatoon offices.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through graduate or undergraduate degrees in social or health sciences, public administration, law or a relevant field and related training and experience will be considered.
