Software Developer (Ruby on Rails) – Contract/Interim – GDS/GOV.UK – 12 Month Contract
This is an opportunity to join Government Digital Service on an interim basis.
We typically pay between £600 to £675 a day for Software Developer’s with a Ruby on Rails focus via our contracting route, but rates can also be determined by the contract deliverables.
Connecting data from across government to provide a macro, user centred view, enabling the centre to prioritise, join things up.
Enabling product, content and service teams to see where they have impact in a wider context so that they can collaborate and improve.
Enabling non specialist teams across government to access granular data so that they can iterate policy based on what users are doing across related information and services so that policy is more user centred and service orientated.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Build RESTful web services to serve a variety of citizen and government needs, taking responsibility for the quality of code you produce
terate and maintain content-data-api, a Ruby on Rails application which provides:
> A data warehouse that stores content and content metrics, and exposes this information via an API, to help content owners measure and improve content on GOV.UK.
> Data is combined from multiple sources, including Publishing API, Feedback and Google Analytics.
Explore techniques which will allow this application to bring in data from other sources, and visualise it in new ways to provide insights to users. Apply modern best practices in software development.
Implement toolkits and APIs for purposes such as integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability
Build automated tests to support our continuous deployment environment
Design and iterate appropriate database schema and associated jobs to ingest data from a variety of data sources (for example time series data from web analytics)
