Goshen College seeks applicants for a full-time Academic Coach. The person in this position is part of the Academic Success Center team that supports students in their academic progress. Responsibilities include creating an individualized support system particularly for first year students, providing the foundation for academic success through teaching a first year Academic Success course, serving as in interventionist to assist with proactive academic support services for an assigned group of students who enter college with lower than a 3.0 HS GPA, responding to concerns entered on the early alert system, and supporting the overall mission and activities of the Academic Success Center.

This is a full-time appointment for the academic year of 10-months (.83 FTE) that pays $34,495 annually and offers full benefits.

Essential Functions and Duties:

Academic Success Coach – 50%

• Provide outreach to identified students from the Retention & Intervention team
• Counsel, advise, and mentor students to facilitate their transition into college throughout the first year
• Make referrals to other departments and to college and community resources as appropriate
• Maintain student records and ensure confidentiality

Academic Success Instructor – 30%

• Teach a first year course with emphasis on skill building for academic success: motivation, initiative, goal-setting, expectations, college culture and policies, interdependence, study strategies, and time-management
• Provide individualized support and academic intervention for students admitted with less than a 3.0 HS GPA

Other duties as assigned – 20%

• Assist the Academic Success Center director as needed in providing orientation week activities and workshops, and in facilitating an area of support such as tutoring, accessibility services, writing support, or non-heritage English speakers.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum Education : Bachelor’s degree

Experience: An understanding of higher education and the academic setting and experience working with students.

Expertise In At Least One Of The Following Areas

• First generation and diverse students needs
• Special education/accessibility services
• Tutoring and/or teaching
• STEM field of study
• Teaching writing and research skills
• TESOL/Non-heritage English speakers

Skills & Competencies:

Required

• High level of communication skills
• High level of organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people, including faculty, students, and administrators
• Experience working with Word, Excel, and Google, in addition to Moodle and online resources for working remotely with students

Preferred

• Familiarity with the experiences of first-generation, diverse, and other high-risk populations
• Conversational fluency in Spanish
• An awareness of mental health and accessibility needs of the classroom
• Training/background in student needs assessment and development of educational plans
• Experience in holistic support of students
