Overview:
Title: SYEP EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Reports To: Community School Director

Hours: 35 hrs per week / non-exempt

LOCATION: 797 Bushwick Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221

Job Summary: Create, implement, and continuously review educational curricula and activities for 14- and 15-year-olds who participate in the programs summer paid project-based learning experience.

Major Duties:
Responsible for the development and implementation of curricula and activities to be used during the summer project-based learning experience for 14- and 15-year-olds. Activities should be sequenced, infused with opportunities for social, emotional, academic, and workforce development skill acquisition, and align to the needs and interests of students and business partners.

Prior to each summer, work with Job Developer and other program staff to assess participants’ career interests, past work experiences, and future goals to inform summer project-based learning content.

At the beginning of programming, work with students to develop a short- and long-term action plan that details their postsecondary goals and relevant steps needed to achieve their outcomes. Align programming to ensure project-based learning content covers relevant major themes.

Mentor and coach students throughout programming, including regularly reviewing their action plan.

Help create and support a safe and welcoming environment conducive to effective learning for all students.

Liaise and meet with the Program Director and designated school faculty to work on alignment of project-based learning content with and school day objects and goals.

Assist and advise in any pre-assessment efforts of students in order to assist staff to gain a better understanding of the area’s activities should most heavily focus on.

Qualifications:
Some college experience or higher.

At least three (3) years of related experience working in the field of youth development or youth workforce development and developing project-based learning experiences.

Must have experience in lesson planning, curriculum development, and implementation of structured programming for high school students.

Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.

Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
