The Glasgow School for Business and Society (GSBS) integrates the areas of business, law and social sciences to ensure that they are well placed to meet the needs of business and society. The Glasgow School for Business and Society seeks to address the complex challenges of the global economy, while delivering social benefit to local and global communities.
The post advertised sits within the GSBS Learning Development Centre. Each school has a Learning Development Centre providing contextualised academic writing support for home and international students, information and communications technology (ICT) support, advice on study skills and other academic support and guidance. The LDC is inclusive and committed to providing support for all students including those with disabilities or specific learning and teaching needs. GSBS LDC provides this support through a combination of workshops, small group sessions, one-to-one appointments and tailored teaching within modules, enabling students to develop the skills required to succeed at university
The role requires the successful candidate to work in partnership with colleagues to provide contextualised, specific academic development support to students across all levels of undergraduate and taught post-graduate programmes through Enhancement-led, evidence-based learning and teaching practices. In particular, we welcome applicants who have expertise in developing materials to support the learning journey of international students encompassing pre-arrival activities, induction support and academic skills development resources.
Applicants will hold a degree in Education (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate considerable experience in a learning support role or previous guidance experience, have experience of the Higher, Further or Secondary Educational system and desirably have knowledge and application of educational diagnostic techniques. Further essential criteria for this role include experience in implementation of developmental strategies particularly in the areas of study skills and essay writing in the context of a relevant discipline and understanding of and commitment to student support, equal opportunities and diversity issues. You will be expected to be familiar with Higher Education and the issues that can affect student success and satisfaction and be actively engaged with new and existing pedagogies to inform your practice. Membership of Advance HE is also desirable.
Applicants are expected to have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills. You should also be able to demonstrate a student-centred approach and an ability to work in a collaborative manner with colleagues.
