The School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment (SCEBE) is committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and knowledge transfer across the disciplines of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment. Our LDC is a multidisciplinary team consisting of specialists in study skills, mathematics and statistics, and Oral and Written Communication. The School wishes to appoint a highly motivated Academic Development Tutor (ADT) specialising in Academic Writing to enhance our learning support for our students across a range of disciplines. The post is a part-time (0.4FTE) open ended contract working with the current team within the School’s Learning Development Centre (LDC).
A significant part of this role will be to develop and deliver a framework of support to scaffold articulation students, through their learning journey and to collaborate with colleagues to embed contextualised skills development in our students’ programme of study. The successful candidate would also be expected to develop materials for online learning in collaboration with our learning technologists, and support students on a one-to-one basis. Our pedagogical practice is evidence-based and informed by research in academic skills development. We offer a supportive environment in which new colleagues can develop their own teaching and research profile in this area, and would expect the post-holder to have an interest in sharing insights and practice with colleagues across Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and the wider academic community.
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and committed individual who demonstrates excellent communication skills with a high degree of motivation and ability to organise and self-manage. The successful candidate will hold a degree in education (or equivalent) and must be able to demonstrate experience in teaching developmental strategies particularly in the areas of academic skills and writing for academic purposes. Additionally, it is expected that applicants will be computer literate with demonstrable digital skills. It is expected that applicants have an understanding of and commitment to student support, equal opportunities and diversity issues. Experience or knowledge of Further Education and the issues which students face when transitioning to Higher Education is desirable.
