Ginkgo Bioworks Hiring for System Architect – Lab Operations at Boston, MA, United States Full Time

Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.

The Lab Operations department at Ginkgo is responsible for reactive and proactive support services across Ginkgo’s automation and equipment stack.

In spec, operational equipment is critical to ensuring effective execution of experiments required to deliver on Ginkgo’s programs, and the Lab Operations team is directly responsible for ensuring maximum uptime of our foundry equipment and automation instruments, as well logistics of equipment procurement, installations and relocations.

As a Systems Architect at Ginkgo Bioworks, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing our equipment management processes across multiple global sites.

You will design and implement workflows in various software platforms to address the challenges associated with maintenance, repair, contract management, SOX compliance and equipment tracking.

You will also ensure that KPIs are measurable and systems collect information required to enable continuous improvement initiatives.

Your work will have a direct impact on labor efficiency and cost reduction for our equipment services.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software that tracks Ginkgo’s equipment service workflows within relevant software platforms.
• Optimize performance of workflow automations, ensuring that workflows and data management processes will scale across multiple global laboratory settings.
• Design, architect and build efficient software workflows, reducing complexity and touch points for end users and lab ops staff.
• Equipment work order management : Streamline JIRA workflows used for scheduling equipment repairs and maintenance and capturing relevant information used for decision making purposes.
• Design, and implement software that tracks laboratory workflows, failure modes, instrument data and associated metadata.
• Design, write and implement software that automates equipment service workflow data management.
• Build and maintain a suite of microservices to perform Ginkgo’s bioinformatics operations
• Work with Equipment Engineers, Lab Managers and other support teams to design, build and maintain services to support laboratory operations.
• Remote, but open to travel to Boston occasionally

Minimum Requirements

A PhD in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience. Will also consider a Bachelor’s degree and 6-8 years of experience;

or 5 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent work experience.

• Proven experience in system architecture and workflow design within business management software platforms.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex business challenges into practical software solutions.
• Proficiency in JIRA, iOffice, Ironclad, Coupa, Tableau and Slack or similar platforms.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Capabilities and Experience

• Previous project management experience is a plus
• Previous experience building business process management workflows from scratch is a plus
• Previous experience supporting a laboratory / biology operations team is a plus
• Previous experience with process engineering and continuous improvement are a plus

Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $143,700 minimum of range + , as well as company stock awards.

Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate’s skills, expertise, and experience.
