Job Description

Job Title: Software Engineer

As part of the Point of Sale (POS) division in GfK we are looking for an Intermediate Python Engineer who can help us build awesome data analytics products.

While historically POS reporting was all about what happened, as one of world’s leading market research firms, we are changing the status quo by using predictive analytics to tell our big-name clients what is going to happen instead – plus what actions we recommend them to take to leverage these predictions.

Many of our clients are global, demanding and well-established brands that you probably interact with on a daily basis both online as well as in your living room.

Intermediate Python Engineers are a crucial member of our teams, being able to integrate with our Front-End Engineers, Data Scientists, QA and Product Team roles. We expect them to take ownership of delivering features and improvements in a way that enables us to maintain and grow our apps on the short and long term.

As an Intermediate Python Engineer you will have following key accountabilities:

• Write effective, scalable code;
• You have the ability to build clean, well encapsulated packages to a high standard;
• You understand why we are building things and bring suggestions and ideas on how to solve our customers’ problems in the best way;
• You are able to contribute to a team and provide solutions to enable improved responsiveness and performance.

Now that we’ve introduced you to the position as an Intermediate Python Engineer, what skills, qualifications and experience should you have?

• You are a self starter;
• You have experience with Python and SQL;
• You know how to write unit tests and what’s the good and bad sides of measuring code coverage;
• You have experience of TDD and implementing it;
• You have experience with Git and using CI/CD pipelines to get your work in production;
• You have a familiarity with Agile Frameworks.

Besides the things we really expect you to have, there are some things which would be amazing if you have experience with them as well:

• You have experience working with Data Science
• You have experience with Kubernetes
• You have experience with Pandas in Python
• You have used Google Cloud Platform
