Full Job Description
Job Purpose
As part of Getinge’s Cardiac Surgery product area, this individual will be responsible for the detailed mechanical design and development of medical devices. He/She will help create new product designs as well a support significant design changes of commercial products.
Job Functions:
- Creates conceptual design solutions for new products and design changes for commercial products and develops such solutions into detailed design specifications.
- Performs detailed mechanical design work using CAD tools and other engineering tools
- Analyzes mechanical engineering data using computer-aided analysis and classical techniques to verify that designs meet requirements
- Partners with Product Development and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure Design for Manufacturability
- Reviews and helps to develop product specifications
- Generates documentation supporting the design
- Collaborates with program management, marketing, regulatory affairs, quality, manufacturing, industrial design.
- Coordinates the mechanical design schedule with the cross-functional program team
- Supports product development, manufacturing and sustaining engineering functions.
- Communicates complex topics effectively to stakeholders.
- Mentors junior engineers in the performance of their assigned tasks
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Background that includes the design of molded plastic or cast parts
- Knowledge of basic and advanced topics in SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Familiarity with dimensioning and tolerance, thermal and structural analysis, and vibration testing/analysis
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across departments and work in multi-departmental project teams to resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong technical and analytical ability, verbal and written communication skills, ingenuity and creativity, and interpersonal skills
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical degree. Master’s degree in Engineering or other related technical degree is desirable.
- Ten or more years of experience in medical device, pharmaceutical or other FDA regulated industry required.
- Formal training in basic and intermediate topics in Solid Works.
- Proficiency with Microsoft MS Office applications.

The salary range for this role is – $130k – $165k, depending on experience.
