About The Role
As a Medical Records Specialist, you will directly to the Medical Records Manager and play a crucial role in handling incoming and outgoing records requests. Your responsibilities will include maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of patient records, retrieving and providing data to medical personnel or patients, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Prioritize and Process Requests: Evaluate and prioritize incoming and outgoing records requests efficiently.
Document Review: Review, validate, and process patient documents for release of information, ensuring all forms are error-free, complete, and legible.
Patient Interaction: Interface with patients as needed, delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Record Maintenance: Maintain a meticulous medical records tracker to keep statuses up to date.
Audit Response: Respond to external medical records audit requests promptly, ensuring records are in the requested format.
Documentation: Gather and deliver patient Letters of Service and Progress Updates; draft documentation requests for supervisor approval.
Third-Party Liaison: Communicate effectively with third-party requestors such as law enforcement officials, other providers, and attorneys.
Quality Checks: Perform regular quality checks to ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of records.
Compliance: Adhere strictly to all HIPAA and confidentiality policies.

Qualifications
Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in medical records.
Skills: Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in ICD-10-CM coding standards, CPT-4 terminologies, and HCPCS coding.
Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of client-specific process rules and regulatory requirements; expertise in medical terminologies, with behavioral health experience being a plus.
Professionalism: Proven professionalism in written and verbal communication with clients.
Time Management: Excellent time and workload management skills.
Problem-Solving: Demonstrate tenacity and problem-solving skills.
Remote Work: Prior experience working remotely is strongly preferred.
