Role Overview: As an Authorization Coordinator, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring that our patients receive the care they need by handling pre-certification and insurance authorization processes efficiently. You’ll be a key communicator between our staff, patients, and insurance providers.
Key Responsibilities
Insurance Protocol Compliance: Review referring physician and patient documentation to ensure Medical Necessity aligns with insurance protocol requirements for pre-certification.
Effective Communication: Actively communicate with staff regarding the status of authorizations and promptly notify offices and patients about new, changed, or pending insurance authorizations. Educate stakeholders on evolving authorization requirements.
Patient Scheduling: Schedule STAT and emergent patients for outpatient diagnostic exams, prioritizing their needs and ensuring timely care.
Data Accuracy: Interact with patients, their representatives, physicians, and office staff to gather and verify demographic, billing, and clinical information. Produce and distribute required forms with utmost accuracy.
Confidentiality: Respect and protect patient rights to confidentiality and privacy, disclosing information only for professional purposes in the patient’s best interests and in compliance with legal requirements.
Positive Attitude: Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with provider’s office staff, providers, and fellow employees, fostering a collaborative work environment.
Additional Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of our healthcare organization.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High school graduate required; advanced education is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a healthcare setting, specializing in benefit verification and prior authorizations.
Strong computer skills with a typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
Impeccable attention to detail and exceptional proofreading skills.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and stakeholders.
Proficiency in data entry and outstanding organizational skills.
Billing and Coding or related certifications are a significant advantage.
