We are a unique Arts in Corrections program affiliated with a leading university, dedicated to providing high-quality arts instruction to incarcerated individuals. Our program focuses on fostering creative and technical skills in various art forms, including visual arts, creative writing, music, and yoga. Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate Teaching Assistant to support our programming at the California Institution for Women in Chino, CA. This is an entry-level position that offers a valuable learning experience and an opportunity to contribute to our mission. You will work closely with experienced teachers, university faculty, and professional advisors. We provide mentorship and regular team meetings to ensure your growth and development in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with Teaching Artists to facilitate weekly in-person classes

Assist in tracking participation and organizing and managing art materials

Support participants in actively engaging with course content and help create an inclusive and nurturing creative environment

Contribute to various projects, such as the Guest Artist series, Distance Learning initiatives, and exhibitions

Assist in curriculum development, including creating, editing, and producing teaching materials

Qualifications

Must be 18 years or older

Located in or willing to relocate to the Chino area

Successful completion of the California Department of Corrections Background Investigation

Additional Information

Experience with art or art making is preferred

This position is part-time, with a commitment of 5-6 hours per week.

The role spans one 15-week term, with the possibility of extension based on performance and interest.

The position is primarily based in the Chino area, with occasional travel required for main meetings and program visits to distant sites.

Mileage to and from the facility will be reimbursed.
