Job Summary
Provide information and counsel to undergraduate and graduate students within an assigned area regarding their academic pursuits and progress. Prepare and maintain associated student records. Usually concentrate in graduate programs or specialized academic area. May provide work direction to Academic Advisor Is and administrative support staff. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: students, parents and faculty, staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: students. This position will supervise: NA.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 –
Meet with students concerning questions and issues regarding various aspects of their academic program. May include questions regarding academic program requirements, registration, permits, overloads, degree petitions, change of major, commencement, curriculum, academic progress, and Institute policy
Job Duty 2 –
Perform reference searches and records access in conjunction with student inquiries.
Job Duty 3 –
Respond to academic administration and faculty requests for assistance in administrative, recruitment or student related matters.
Job Duty 4 –
Prepare assessment reports; maintain student related records, files and databases;
Job Duty 5 –
Review, approve and process curriculum related actions.
Job Duty 6 –
Interact with other academic units in conjunction with joint programs
Job Duty 7 –
May schedule and coordinate student events.
Job Duty 8 –
May provide input to academic unit’s planning efforts.
Job Duty 9 –
Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Overnight travel requdvisored for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours (due to client shift schedules, project requdvisorements).

Familiarity with Clifton Strengths and experience working with STEM majors is a plus. Applicants should be knowledgeable of student development theory and be advising best practices. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) as well as active listening skills are key. Must be motivated to collaborate and contribute to a team environment. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Advising & Coaching, this position serves as a primary advisor for undergraduate students exploring majors & minors/certificates, considering change-of-major, or who are referred for assistance in identifying or considering new academic paths at Georgia Tech. Advising services include individual appointment-based, and group-based, and drop-in interactions, as well as participation in exploratory advising programming for current and prospective students, including facilitating classroom presentations and workshops.
Participation in GTAAN (Georgia Tech Academic Advisors Network) and profressional organizations is expected, as is keeping abreast of best practices and current trends in academic & exploratory advising.
