SUMMARY: The Special Education LIFE Instructional Coach is an educational professional and content expert whose job it is to help improve special education students’ achievement by building teacher capacity and an understanding of instructional practices by providing ongoing professional development, building their teaching skills and assisting them in applying new knowledge. Their typical job duties include observing special education instructional practices, training special education teachers and staff, assisting with the design and implementation of a district wide, content specific scope and sequence, and ensuring special education instructional practice is in alignment with curriculum goals. Special Education LIFE Instructional Coaches also focus on ways to improve learning opportunities for special education students and educators alike. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, professional learning, and providing feedback to teachers.
