General Motors Hiring for Data Scientist – Software Defined Vehicle at Markham, ON Full Time

Data Engineering is a key function of the team, contributing to the development of Software Defined Vehicle features. You will be working to record and analyze data from multiple controllers and sensors including LiDARs, radars, and cameras, coming up with solutions for vehicles of today and tomorrow. As a data scientist, you will be responsible for developing data insights to drive business decision or action via statistics, natural language processing, AI/ML modeling. You will work with data customers directly within GM or external on any data request.

Key Responsibilities:
Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms;

Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns

Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data

Monitor and maintain AI/ML model effectiveness

Combine models through ensemble modeling

Present complex information using data visualization techniques

Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges that drive business impact

Conduct Design Thinking/ Ideation/ Innovation sessions with the stakeholders throughout the product cycle & anticipate customers’ needs;

Research/benchmark AI/ML technology to support data product/service roadmap;

Status updates to leadership on key data insights at program milestones, including reviews and demos;

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience:
7+ years of experience in data science capacity;

Proficient in one or more analytical methodologies such as feature engineering, numerical optimization, real time & time-series modeling, forecasting, image modeling, machine learning/deep learning and natural language processing

ML toolkits: Pandas, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Keras, SK-Learn

3+ yrs industry experience in developing, deploying, and monitoring performance of data pipelines, data analysis, and BI reporting;

Experience utilizing:
Scripting languages (Python, PySpark and SQL)

Databases (Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Cassandra, Elastic, and/or S3)

Data Visualizations (PowerBI and/or Kibana)

Proven technical ability to navigate highly complex data management projects and effectively collaborate with multiple parties;

Experience in software defined services including software release workflow, over the air data collection pipeline & database design;

Certification as SAFe© Professional;

Understanding and operate with SAFe Agile methodologies;

Ability to investigate issues based on limited information;

Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills;

Creative, strategic and analytical thinking ability;

Ability to work and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver results;

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with the scrum team members and cross-functional teams;

Organizational and time management skills;

Attention to detail;

Jira & RTC proficiency;

Must be legally allowed to work in Canada and be able to travel to the US

Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license

Preferred Skills and Experience

Understanding of major automotive vehicle systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Network, and Powertrain

Experience with automotive related data (e.g. warranty and diagnostics)

Experience with vehicle data acquisition tools (e.g. Vehicle Spy, CANalyzer)

Experience with data collection over the air

Experience with Big Data using Spark/Scala/Hadoop/Hive

Experience with database design

Experience with website, SharePoint and/or GUI development

Experience with web-based APP development

Exposure to embedded software (C/C++ and/or Matlab Simulink)

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or Engineering

Advance degree (Master or PhD) in AI/ML preferred
