General Motors Hiring for ADAS Controls System Engineer: Software Architecture Job at Milford, MI Full Time

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite monthly.

We are seeking a high-performing ADAS Controls System Engineer who will work on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Serial Data Software. This role involves mapping signals to software interfaces and working cross-functionally to define the parameters of those signals. This person will implement build and parse software along with doing analysis and support resolution of software defects. The role will allow this individual to become familiar with the overall architecture of our ADAS software components, as it requires communication and coordination with various teams. The role will also require exercising technical direction over engineering support personnel, and regular consultation with appropriate technical specialists and peers as required.

Responsibilities:

• Generate build/parse software using different tools and inputs
• Understand the mapping of signals to software interfaces
• Work with Controls Technical Specialist and TRB Lead to define the Software Architecture in the Active Safety space
• Initiate and drive architecture-related changes
• Handle change requests in the system and with the architecture community to implement your changes into actions
• Participate in high level discussions with other TRBs where architecture impact is probable
• Provide guidance as to best practices and provide feedback on suggested alternatives
• Provide direction to ensure planned changes follow the current architectural methodology
• Evaluate and root cause issues to identify appropriate engineers that need to be involved
• Advise on ways to deploy software components across software streams to maximize reuse and isolate change
• Become familiar with the overall architecture strategy, and work together to ensure a common strategy implementation across the ADAS and GM Product Line

Additional Job Description

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree
• Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
• Experience in software algorithm design, performance tuning, debugging, documentation, and testing
• Experience with programming languages (C/C++), operating systems (Unix, Linux, RTOS for embedded system)
• Knowledgeable about embedded system & software as it pertains to engineering
• Good business sense, ability to communicate, and a desire to understand customer needs
• Track record of “getting things done” by managing and leading multiple projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-change environment with an initiative demonstrated by reaching beyond assigned work to improve output and help others
• Enthusiasm for solving interesting problem
• Ability to work in a disciplined software development environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering with control systems emphasis
• Experience using protocols and interfaces like CAN, ethernet, flexray, and other network topologies and interfaces
• Knowledge in Git Ecosystem (GES), Rational Team Concert (RTC), and RSMT (Interface management)
