An opportunity for an experienced software engineer to apply their software knowledge in the context of investigating and developing new technologies in support of the aviation systems product roadmaps.
This position is within the Advanced Technology Organisation (ATO) at Bishops Cleeve. This group investigates and develops new technology that has the potential to be introduced into GE Aviation Systems product (Power and Avionics) in the 3 to 10-year time frame. The group represents GE’s outward-facing engineering capability on collaborative and customer-funded R&D projects and has a long history of successfully attracting funding for R&D activities through bodies such as Innovate UK and the EC. This success is built on the skills of the group’s multi-disciplinary staff who are able to deliver prototypes, customer demonstrations, reports and knowledge in niche areas. Group members are frequently called upon to support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, bids & proposals, technology roadmaps, and engagements with new customers.
As a software engineer you will be responsible for delivering software tasks on technology projects. Depending on the scope of the project, this could be individual or team development work. Whilst some development may be Windows-based (writing test tools or proof-of-concept applications), the majority of development will be embedded software to run on development hardware. This could range from software for controlling the safe switching of high currents in electrical distribution units to investigating security measures for protecting embedded operating systems.
ATO team members are expected to demonstrate a level of flexibility and willingness to turn their hand to new technology areas, however depth of knowledge in niche areas is also valued. This could be from previous aviation engineering roles but also from adjacent industries e.g. automotive, safety-critical.
