WHAT TO EXPECT

Located in Dumfries and St. Neots, UK, you will be supervising and controlling all accounting functions including invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, cash control, tax and general ledger. You will support a culture of continuous improvement with regard to the department’s processes and leverages on the best practices of each department.
- You will be assuring that all accounting procedures are in accordance with Gates policies and procedures and with all local government laws and regulations.
- You will be assists local plant management to ensure proper and efficient internal control and makes recommendations to maximise profitability and cash generation.
- You will be is responsible for all control activities where the finance department is process owner and that are subject to Sarbanes-Oxley Act 404 Compliance.
- Your goals include to assure that the work is performed in line with the documented control activities, and to immediately inform the Sarbanes Oxley Coordinator if control activities are/become ineffective (due to changes in personnel, responsibility,…).

ABOUT YOU
- Master degree in finance or economics
- 5 years prior experience in financial and management accounting in an international manufacturing environment or equivalent relevant experience
- Must be fluent in English

Basic Purpose and Function:
Manages the finance departments for Gates UK in the 2 UK locations (Dumfries, St. Neots). This encompasses the supervision and control of all accounting functions including invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, cash control, tax and general ledger. The financial controller supports a culture of continuous improvement with regard to the department’s processes and leverages on the best practices of each department.
The department is responsible for monthly financial closing in line with group’s reporting instructions and prepares, analyses and reconciles all accounting reports required by management. The department coordinates and submits monthly forecast and annual budget data in line with group’s instructions.
Besides management reporting, the department submits local GAAP statutory reporting and achieves compliance with regard to all required tax documents and declarations.
The controller assures that all accounting procedures are in accordance with Gates policies and procedures and with all local government laws and regulations.
The controller assists local plant management to ensure proper and efficient internal control and makes recommendations to maximise profitability and cash generation.

This means:
- To assure that the work is performed in line with the documented control activities
- To immediately inform the Sarbanes Oxley Coordinator if control activities are/become ineffective (due to changes in personnel, responsibility,…)
- To implement the remediation actions, that are the results of an ineffective control activity, in the agreed time frame
HSE
Shall be aware about the site HSE policy and objectives and support the budgeting process to implement the HSE-related projects and investments.
Quality Related Functions and Responsibilities:
They will be responsible for following and training staff to all company guidelines and relevant standards established for accounting and bookkeeping. Responsible for all data and calculations in the department, accuracy of reports, tax filings and systematic retention of all records. Must bring any unusual variations to the attention of management immediately.
Position Dimensions:
- Reports directly to the European Operations Controller with functional responsibility to the respective plant managers.
- Supervises a team.
Contacts (internal/external):
Frequent contact with all levels of associates in the plant.
Frequent contact with all levels of management at Gates.
Financial auditors and tax authorities
Other (travel, working conditions, unusual work schedules):
- Main location is Dumfries, but they will be required to attend St. Neots on a quarterly basis or more often if required.
- They will travel occasionally to attend management meetings in Europe.
- The workload can require heavy and rigorous working hours during month-end and budgeting process.
Skills

Education/ Experience (minimum required):
