Highways Engineer

Full-Time / PERMANENT (non-negotiable)

A Highways Engineer is required to work on a PERMANENT basis in either London, Coventry or Manchester. This exciting position is for a passionate all round Highways and Civil Engineer who has already obtained a good level of experience of working on a variety of Highway projects. The ideal candidate will be someone who wishes to ultimately lead highway projects but is also happy to work on other wider civil engineering projects to help advance their knowledge, skills and experience.

Responsibilities include producing design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, liaising with members of design/construction teams, project managing, costing and ensuring that progress is made against the project brief. Also, responsibilities include checking calculations and production of detailed drawings to ensure engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements, contributing to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work and change controls as required, representing the company in external project technical meetings as required, and reviewing specialist subcontractors/suppliers calculations and drawings for technical compliance with design intent.

The successful candidate MUST be working towards Chartered or Incorporated Membership with the ICE or IStructE (or equivalent), be able to demonstrate experience of working on Highways and Civils projects, particularly design projects, have excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex ideas simply, have an ability to develop relationships with stakeholders that deliver long term benefits, be able to use Microdrainage software, have good knowledge of CIRIA 753 (The SUDS Manual) and have experience in design and specification of external works including site, earthworks and below ground utilities layouts and levels. Ideally, the successful candidate would have experience of delivering multi-disciplinary Highways and/or Civil projects, and have experience of contributing to bids, proposals and tender submissions with an understanding of commercial elements of projects.
