As the custodian of our collective knowledge, the Instructional Documentation & Course Designer ensures the core instructional documentation for Front Burner and associated brands remains accurate, accessible, clear, concise, and compelling. The position requires a blend of technical writing and instructional design skills in order to create engaging course content that promotes comprehension and retention. Content varies from project to project, from highly technical, straightforward material like precise measurements and procedures in recipes to more expansive, and sometimes nebulous, concepts like leadership skills development.
As part instructional designer, the Instructional Documentation & Course Designer partners with other Learning & Communication specialists to analyze training requests and contribute to the design of a learning strategy with learning objectives and clearly-defined deliverables that best meet the needs of the defined audience and success factors established. Furthermore, they will be responsible for the development of core instructional documentation deliverables, may assist in the development of e-learning courses, and will support the implementation of the overall learning program. Later, they may play an active role in the evaluation of released training solutions.
As part technical writer, the Instructional Documentation & Course Designer carefully crafts content suited to the intended end user, whether hourly team members or business owners and executives. They address business needs, instructional goals, and learner needs with skillfully structured, well-designed, and attractive documentation. They mind the details of our dialect, matching the voice of our manuals, ensuring consistency in style, tone, and quality. They single out stylistic preferences, words, and phrases that should be used across recipes, job aids, and instructional documentation to reinforce concepts and promote recollection.
As a member of the Learning & Communications Department, they collaborate and consult with partners and peers across departments to research, organize, and develop instructional content, interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) and observing operations in order to gain in-depth understanding of the processes, procedures, services, and experiences being offered.
The Instructional Documentation & Course Designer will be a pro-active, involved team member assisting in the delivery of other core services within the Learning & Communications Department. A sense of urgency, interpersonal skills, and excellent time management are critical to this team member’s success.
