Digital Content Manager, Web Support, and Content Creation
The Friends of Blue Mound State Park (FBMSP) are seeking a Digital Content Manager whose primary responsibilities, in collaboration with the communications committee, will be to maintain and grow a digital and social media presence for the FBMSP, as well as establish and maintain a periodic (quarterly or biannual) email newsletter detailing past events at the park, advertise for future events, and showcase FBMSP achievements.
This position is a paid-hourly contract position, averaging 3-6 hours per week with significant flexibility and occasionally busier weeks around newsletter publication and FBMSP major events such as the annual Horribly Hilly Hundreds Bike Ride.
NOTE: This position is currently funded through the summer of 2023. If successful, the board will seek to fund the remainder of the year and plan funding in the annual budget.
While there are significant responsibilities this position could take on which are listed below, generally the position will focus on the friendsofbluemound.org website, the
FBMSP facebook page, establishing an instagram presence, and establishing and maintaining an email newsletter.
Specific duties include:
● Taking a lead role in writing and curating content for the Friends of Blue Mound
State Park (FBMSP) social media platforms. This includes optimizing content for visibility, establishing and rewriting content for changing trends or needs, and finding ways to increase FBMSP visibility.
● Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification.
● Generate, edit, publish and share daily/weekly content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community and Friends members to visit the park and volunteer.
● Assist with FBMSP web content on the WordPress platform, including blog posts, calendar updates, event page maintenance, etc.
● Take a lead role in the coordination and creation of a biannual email newsletter.
● Assist the FBMSP in writing content for FBMSP and Blue Mound State Park events, volunteer activities, and initiatives/programs. This may include email newsletters, media releases, stories for the web, event updates, etc. across all
FBMSP platforms.
● Assist FBMSP board with simple photography and video creation.
● Create a digital library for FBMSP website of past naturalist demonstrations and events.
Knowledge & Skills: The candidate must have excellent writing and editing skills. They should also have good office practices and procedures including the ability to organize, prioritize work, deal with multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. This role has no set schedule so ability to self-manage will be critical. Attendance at Friends of
Blue Mound State Park board meetings on the third Monday of each month is highly encouraged (we have 8-10 meetings annually).
Successful candidates will possess:
● Strong oral and written communication skills
● Attention to detail and organizational skills
● An editor’s eye for detail
● Social media savvy with attention to audience and channel, plus experience managing social media for an organization
● Familiarity with content creation using the WordPress platform
● Photography and/or video experience is a plus
● Visual arts or graphic design training/experience is a plus
