How do you communicate with a young person without using words?
For many young people the world can be a confusing place. They can find it difficult to communicate their feelings and emotions. This can make it challenging to build that connection with others, often leading to frustration and anxiety.
What does a typical placement look like?
You will be working 1:1 with a young person in Berkshire, planning and delivering education based around their needs, interests, and challenges. Sessions can take place in the student’s home, a local library or community centre. Sessions will last between 3-5 hours and take place across the week (no weekends), however we’re flexible so if you can only work two, three or four days then that’s fine. You have the autonomy to plan your sessions around the interests and needs of your student and we’ll provide £15 per session for any resources, materials or activities as well.
What benefits do we offer?
There are opportunities to work with multiple students throughout the year, with each placement typically lasting 6-12 weeks. Fresh Start feel strongly about the wellbeing of our staff as shown by our two consecutive Silver Award’s through Investors in People, so you’ll receive a designated line manager to support you with each placement. Other benefits include free counselling, financial, and wellbeing service as well as access to discount cards and vouchers for many high-street and online stores. We also provide ongoing accredited training which can be added to your CPD.
What are we looking for?
We need you to have experience of working with young people, specifically those with special educational needs. This could be in either an educational or care setting. Ideally, you’ll have experience of delivering education, whether that be Functional Skills, Primary or Secondary curriculum. We require an unwavering commitment to Safeguarding whilst showing resilience, patience, creativity, and empathy. You will need to be confident and comfortable with children who may exhibit challenging behaviour (we will provide you with guidance and training for this).
Are you ready for the next step in your education career?
