We are excited to share this opportunity to join our team as a Quality Control Technician. This permanent, full-time role, reporting to the QA Manager, will be based out of Richmond BC with adhoc time spent onsite supporting our Delta BC location.
Under general supervision, the primary function of the Quality Control Technician is to provide support to the manufacturing operations and, at times, be the sole Quality representative. They have overall and general responsibility for compliance to all company and regulatory policies/procedures pertaining to product safety/quality and are involved in delivery of related training. The QC Technician has a sound working knowledge of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements and is able to follow duties according to established SOPs and policies and directions. all QC roles are required to operate within a flexible work hour environment.
Reporting to the QA Manager, duties include but are not restricted to:
Facilitates production activities to meet quality/safety specifications and regulatory standards
Conducts raw materials/packaging inspection; receives bulk raw materials; adjusts batches of product; collects samples and performs various tests include sensory and checks ensuring food safety and food quality
Identifies non-conformances and at times, rectifies non-conformances. Ensures continued cleanliness of the lab and working areas
Assists in efforts to educate and train the workforce on food quality and safety issues
Conducts training for plant employees and regularly follows up with employees to ensure that they understand QC related requirements
Identifies continuous improvement opportunities and leads implementation through utilization of Lean tools, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and HACCP
Adheres to all company policies and procedures in maintaining a safe work environment for self and others
Promotes a continuous learning environment and sharing of best practices, methods and ideas
Champions a culture of high performance through employee engagement and continuous improvement orientation in all actions and approaches
Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, from time to time, without advanced notice.
Minimum Skills Knowledge & Education Required:
B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field or equivalent related education
Minimum of 2 years related experience
Solid command of the English language; capable of using moderately complex oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated competency in all food safe practices
Exercises respectful communications with others
Demonstrates dexterity in handling and performing tests in an accurate manner.
Able to lift up to 20kg on an occasional basis.
Sound problem solving/trouble shooting skills
Accuracy and a strong attention to detail
Good understanding of a production / manufacturing environment
Proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
Knowledge of regulatory and quality system requirements – PRP, HACCP, Good Manufacturing Process (GMP), Preventive Controls, etc.
Ability to work flexible hours including evening, to work alone or with minimal supervision
Maintains up to date knowledge and understanding of company policies and procedures
Working Conditions
This position is required to operate and perform in a (general lab, food manufacturing, production, warehousing) environment. Unique or special features of the job include:
Less than 10% of day is spent sitting in close proximity to a computer/workstation
90-100% of day is spent walking or standing
Able to work in temperature between 6°C and 32°C
May need to work in loud environment or congested area on occasion
