Role Summary:
Sets up and operates manual machines including but not limited to vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, grinders, and gear cutting equipment. Work from complicated component drawings, routers, and/or verbal instructions to produce parts that meet specifications. Measure and inspect parts to verify that they are acceptable. Must possess practical metal cutting knowledge to make sound decisions in fabricating parts.

Responsibilities & Requirements: Duties include but not limited to:
Maintain Quality Control based off the internal policies and procedures also complying to the Z299.4/N299.4 or ISO 9001:2015 Standard
Set up and adjust equipment as needed to product acceptable parts
Operates the machines to perform machining in accordance with design drawings, sketches and oral instructions using basic shop math
Uses supplied and personal measuring devices for checking components for conformity to previous instructions
Assists in training of other machinists as needed
Works with a minimum of supervision
Maintains assigned equipment and complies with preventative maintenance activities where applicable
Performs assignments maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area as well as any other areas directly affected
Plans and lays-out work from design drawings, sketches and oral instructions
Uses basic shop math and has a working knowledge of trigonometry for figuring various angles, radius’, lengths, and other dimensional aspects of a part.
Sets-up and adjusts any machine for a variety of short run or production runs to machine any type of component
Uses supplied and personal measuring devices for checking components for conformity to previous instructions
Be an active participant in safety first culture, completing all training, and providing open and honest feedback about safety needs, safety observations, near misses and opportunities for improvement in the safety culture at the facility
Qualifications:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. to load components into machining center. Anything over 50 lbs. will be required to use a two man lift methodology or use a overhead crane to load machinery
Experienced in use of inspection and measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers (OD, ID, depth) and telescope gauge
Ability to read component prints and routers
Basic math skills
2+ years relevant machining experience
Preferred Experience / Skills:
Machining classes in Machine Shop Practices I – II – III and IV, Metals / Heat Treatment and Numerical Control
Computer proficiency
Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques. (6 Sigma)
Familiarity with a variety of machining and assembly processes
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
