The Cost Accountant is responsible maintaining the general ledger including monthly reconciliations of the subsidiary ledgers. Assists the Manufacturing Controller in daily accounting activities in conjunction with monthly close, adjustment to actual calculations, annual budget, physical inventories, and product costing of one manufacturing facility and one warehouse. Hours may be extended when workload is increased particularly during month-end close and budget season. Position is primarily in Bowling Green, FL.
Position Summary
The Cost Accountant assists the Manufacturing Controller in daily accounting activities in conjunction with monthly close, adjustment to actual calculations, annual budget, physical inventories, and product costing of one manufacturing facility and one warehouse.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Complete month-end close activities such as: Reconcile inventory roll forwards (and general ledger to inventory roll forwards); investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies; and track and analyze usage variances.
· Generate monthly, annual, and ad-hoc reports and present findings to leadership.
· Review and analyze operational spending to identify, analyze, and report on spending variances.
· Assist in physical inventory counts.
· Ensure inventory policies are being followed.
· Identify and explain inventory variances.
· Assist in the creation and maintaining of Bill of Materials (BOM) using standard costing techniques.
· Assist with the actual costing of materials & finished goods monthly.
· Work closely with production management to build annual production schedules.
· Review operational spending and create analysis to aid production management in determining spending budget.
· Present annual budget to management.
· Assist with year-end closing activities such as calculation of adjustments to actual inventory valuations, and assist as needed with annual audit.
· Monitor capital spending and close-out projects by adding them to fixed asset list.
· Generate capital spending reports.
· Review capital spending and ensure proper coding.
· Close out completed projects, add to fixed asset listing, and set up depreciation.
· Monitor Spare Parts Inventory by recording additions, journalizing depletions, and maintaining inventory reports utilizing Excel.
Other projects and duties could be assigned as the business grows, or as necessitated by business objectives.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
· CPA preferred
· 2 – 5 years’ accounting experience; preferably in a manufacturing environment
· JD Edwards/S2K experience preferred
