IN AS MUCH EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTER is looking for a Lead Teacher. The primary role of the Lead Teacher is to provide for the individual needs of the children in care by offering food, a safe environment and a structured educational environment that meets each individual students’ emotional, physical, social and cognitive needs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The qualifications of the Lead Teacher should meet state and DOE requirements and Florida Statutes teachers. A Montessori Certification for the appropriate age group, and a Bachelor Degree in Education or higher degree is preferred.

• 5 years of experience in Montessori education which includes curriculum planning and implementation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Montessori Certification is preferred and CDA Certification from an accredited educational facility or BA or higher in Education or related field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Students

• Consistently strive to meet all responsibilities of customer service, guiding and nurturing the development and learning of the students and families. Provide a prepared environment, identifiable activity routines offering and facilitating activity “transitions,” and observing the students constantly for the development of individual learning plans.
• Use a daily schedule based on prescribed Montessori ideals. Function as a reference person and exemplar for students.
• Assist with development and Montessori training of staff for program advancement.
• Maintain knowledge of state elementary expectations for kindergarten readiness and each level of development, keeping these in mind while guiding the learning process.
• Implement the program in accordance with the policies, procedures, schedules, scope and sequence and philosophy of the center
• Supervise lesson plan content to meet program goals and individual needs of children.
• Place a material need order, when necessary, to office.
• Plan with teachers to gear the program and activities to the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.
• Keep personal log as reference for teacher needs, concerns, program requirements, and problems of any kind.
• Involve parents in the program.
• Maintain constant supervision of students in care; attend to students in distress. Supervise all activates to ensure proper participation and safety.
• Use appropriate positive Montessori discipline techniques with students.
• Interact with the students in a friendly and supportive manner using student’s names with calm tone of voice.
• Follow policy and procedures for all of the students, activities and daily routines.
• Report to the Administration any signs of illness, injury or abuse of students. Take appropriate action in emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and sign in sheets.
• Assist in the planning and maintenance of the outdoor learning environment.

Parent Relations

• Treat children and parents with dignity, compassion and respect. Always remain objective.
• Inform parents of child’s progress and adjustment in a positive manner.
• Attend and Host Parent events during the academic year.
• Assist in explaining the program to visitors. Tour school with prospective parents. Communicate Montessori philosophy to parents
• Assist the director in parent-school relationships.
• Recognize and respect appropriate parent/student confidentiality.
• Interact with parents in a positive and helpful manner.
• Provide parent/student with daily or weekly communication and participate with Administration in Parent –Teacher Conferences.
• Encourage parental involvement and support student’s relationship with family by:
• Providing opportunities to appreciate student families as a part of the Montessori program;
• Incorporate information about the different families’ cultures into classroom experiences.

Room Maintenance

• Responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classrooms and central area.
• Complete a weekly report of room and building condition and cleanliness. Document upkeep of bulletin boards and room decorations.
• Forward information concerning broken equipment, toys or other dangerous situations from teachers to director.
• Periodically inventory room supplies, books, manipulatives and equipment. Keep record of the inventory for review with management or teaching staff.
• Maintain sanitary standards.

Staff Training

• Attend all required trainings for teaching staff.

Paper Work

• Prepare weekly area maintenance chart.
• Provide monthly meeting input.
• Turn in lesson plans.
• Document area problems and Academic progress charting for each child
• Parent communication
