Position Summary:
The Director of Online Education reports directly to the President and is responsible for the development and delivery of Florida Education Institute’s (FEI) online education. This position provides leadership and support in the areas of instructional design, specialized online programs for developing web-based courses, continuing education and professional development in online learning, instructional technology, pedagogy, and compliance.
Applying strong project management skills plus deep knowledge in instructional design and online course quality assurance, this position is to build a long-term strategic online education through compliance, opportunities in online education, and online learning best practices. It involves contributing to institutional technology planning and provide academic technology services to support the institution’s mission and goals which include strategic planning and institutional assessment.
The Director of Online Education is responsible for building awareness and implementing successful models of fully and hybrid online postsecondary learning activities, courses, and program for adult learners, including but not limited to, career education, continuing education for professionals, corporate training, personal enrichment courses. Assures that online education programs and courses are fully integrated with the institution by way of collaborating with faculty and strengthening partnerships with external organizations and education leaders.
Essential Functions:
General Functions:
Ensures that courses and programs provide excellent learning opportunities for students while maintaining an obsessive focus in assuring students have an exceptional online experience.
Collaborate effectively with administration, academic leadership, budget personnel, faculty, information technology staff, enrollment services, and other internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative online career education and professional continuing education.
Creates planning processes to identify emerging opportunities, evaluates their potential and recommends strategic priorities for investment
Follows state and federal regulations and accreditation standards to ensure compliance including State Authorization with National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).
Lead the adoption of Quality Matters Standards for the institution.
Executes with a long-term strategic perspective after identifying opportunities that build attractive and in-demand online education offerings for non-traditional adult students and professionals.
Develop OPM partnerships to elevate existing programs and capitalize on immediate opportunities.
Builds external relationships and establishes strategic partnerships with a wide variety of online learning support resources (OPM, vendors, consultants, instructors, etc.) in order to extend internal resources and capabilities.
Manages and leads a highly collaborative team of instructional, media designers, technical specialists, contractors, vendors, consultants, and partners.
Leads continuous curriculum development and improvement (online and on-campus) by working with closely with faculty on the best practices in program and course design.
Provide research and development by consulting with external organizations, subject matter experts, and institutional staff and faculty at a high managerial level to uncover opportunities, understand content complexities, and develop appropriate learning objectives that align with the organizational goals and training needs.
Creates a vision, strategy and underlying business plan for online education through active consultation with administration, faculty, vendors, and industry leaders.
Leverages knowledge of market, research, and trends to develop marketing and branding strategies for online programs and evaluates the feasibility of new initiatives.
Assures that all courses produced and launched meet the institution’s quality standards and regulatory requirements, including accessibility, media, editorial, and copyright standards.
Design, develop, and implement instructional content, courses and projects that enrich teaching and learning in online learning experiences.
Project manage all aspects of development for online program and course content.
Creates and manages the instructional design team and develops the timetable for all programs, courses, and online education initiatives.
Provides leadership, coordination, supervision, direct support, and project management for instructional design online program and course development.
Develops policies and procedures related to online education.
Collaborates with IT to recommend and evaluate technologies relevant to online education.
Ensure compliance with licensing and copyright laws and regulations.
Develops and implements a faculty training program that includes instructional technologies, faculty policies, and online education best practices.
Designs, develops and delivers training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.
Work collaboratively with faculty throughout the institution (online and on-campus) to provide pedagogical and technical support and training.
Work with faculty in a transformational leadership capacity to foster interest, identification, and piloting of new technologies for supporting digital teaching and learning.
Establish an infrastructure, communication plan, and system to ensure that faculty have access to instructional support for existing and new technologies.
Work closely with faculty and staff to guide the design of new online courses and programs and the conversion of existing in-person offerings.
Assuring online education includes digital accessibility in order to provide equal access to students regardless of impairment or disability.
Strategically expands the marketing reach and overall impact of the institution’s online initiatives.
Collaborates with the enrollment management and marketing teams to promote enrollment growth and execute on enrollment strategies for all online programs and course offerings.
Contributes effective marketing and growth strategies to reach desired market segment.
Develop and monitor the online learning budget to ensure that budget expectations are met.
Stays abreast of best practices in performance-based curriculum design, e-learning, and higher education.
Supervises, hires, and evaluates staff within the Office of Online Education.
Performs all other related duties as assigned
