First Place for Youth Hiring for Vice President of Talent and Equity Job at Oakland, CA Full Time

JOB SUMMARY: The Vice President (VP) of Talent and Equity is an experienced, results oriented, and strategic Human Resources leader. Reporting to the Chief Impact and People Officer, the VP of Talent and Equity will oversee the talent/human resource and equity work. They will be responsible for the organization-wide strategy and systems need to attract, select, develop, and retain top talent, to fulfill our strategic goals, and to create and manage the performance-based culture essential to achieving those objectives. They will also lead the organizations intentional use of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles in the on-going development of First Place staff.

Essential Duties and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Strategy and Organizational Leadership

• The VP of Talent and Equity will ensure that talent is supported with an appropriate benefits structure, a positive working environment and compliance with all federal and state workplace laws and regulations. The VP of Talent and Equity will be a trusted resource and expert, promoting an organizational culture that is aligned with the values of FPFY and position the organization as a best-in-class employer in the sector.
• Serve as a knowledgeable and wise steward of First Place’s resources, bringing proactive leadership and guidance to the organization as a whole. Provide expertise in all matters, working with the Leadership Team to ensure a thorough consideration of the financial, risk, and regulatory implications of pending decisions. Actively participate in regular schedule of leadership meetings, agency staff meetings, and supervision with the Chief Impact and People Officer, providing recommendations regarding various courses of action.
• Professionally and effectively represent the agency in external meetings, conferences and speaking engagements to build visibility and increase credibility for First Place’s administrative expertise.

Talent and People

• Oversee development and implementation of a multi-year Talent Plan that aligns with the overall mission and strategy of the organization, resulting in innovative, best practices and policies that will service the full range of First Place’s talent needs and help build a high-performing culture of success, accountability, transparency and collaboration.
• Hire, manage, develop and supervise staff. Lead team members in setting work goals and maintaining accountability for goal achievement. Ensure that staff are resourced with individual professional development plans.
• Provide leadership to First Place’s HR workstream, ensuring that staff are properly on-boarded, trained, supervised, recognized and equipped to maximize their contributions as valued employees. Work to continuously improve HR systems and processes, leveraging the latest technology, so that they are consistent with the highest professional standards. Support efforts to make First Place an increasingly desirable place to work with a high degree of employee satisfaction.
• Oversee and evaluate yearly compensation benchmarking, informed by sector and market trends.
• Oversee the strategic design and implementation of key talent initiatives by the department and utilize staff data and feedback to ensure adoption and proper execution of such initiatives.
• Work to align people/Talent/DEI workstreams with a strategic eye for a long-term infrastructure to serve the organization’s growth strategy.

Risk Management

• Ensure effective management of personnel files and proper progressive practices and documentation to ensure professional development or termination of employees as appropriate.
• Ensure effective hard records filing with standardized procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, training, storage, transfer and disposal of records.

Cross-functional and inter-organizational collaboration

• Ensure highly-functional avenues for internal communication between all internal departments within First Place.
• Collaborate with the Finance, Program and Development Teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll and benefit information is provided.

Addressing Equity

• Actively advance diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all facets of work including organizational culture. Monitor the growth and maintenance of a transparent organizational infrastructure that includes equitable organization-wide performance improvement activities.
• Work to build organizational culture based on DEI principles through execution on equitable recruiting, hiring and onboarding, monitoring DEI benchmarks, ensuring that deliverables from the equity plan are being incorporated into the organizational workplan on an annual basis.
• Participate on the DEI Steering Committee and Employee Engagement Committee, to ensure progress on the organizational Equity Plan. Support training and implementation of equity practices in the hiring, on-boarding, training, and staff evaluation processes. Lead meetings to support implementation of the organization’s DEI Plan, including on-boarding and development of the Emerging Leaders program.
• Engage in long-term planning discussions around the oversight of the Equity Plan and make recommendations for infrastructure based on the Equity Plan deliverables and evaluation of benchmarking.

Position Competencies and Qualifications:

• LEADERSHIP – 8-10 years of experience in general full-cycle talent management and human resources, with at least several years in a leadership role, preferably in a multi-site environment; demonstrated experience in the core aspects of talent management and organizational development (e.g. recruitment, onboarding, and performance management, professional development, retention, culture building.) Bachelors degree required.

• FINANCIAL FLUENCY – High facility with numbers. Capacity to communicate financial information with ease and to be a financial management resource for all departments within the organization. Strong financial analysis and budget.
• RISK MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE – Ability to recognize, assess, and address areas of vulnerability for the organization. Proactive attitude and demonstrated ability to mitigate areas of potential risk. Ensure effective programmatic and human resources standardized policies and procedures that balance needs and rights of youth and staff with the interests of the organization.
