9 Week Summer Intern, Software Engineering

THE ROLE

As a FinancialForce summer intern, you will be fully emerged within our Harrogate based R&D Organisation which consists of a number of key areas, including:

• Software Development
• DevOps
• Research
• Architecture

The role will involve working in one or more of these teams, learning about how they work, and making contributions to their goals and objectives. You will be exposed to software development processes defined by Lean and Agile methodologies. These involve a strong emphasis on quality and continuous test automation and delivery.

You will get the right tools to do the job, for example, you will be issued with a MacBook pro.

WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE

Responsibilities will include some or all of the following depending upon the teams you are assigned to:

• Developing software code
• Fixing software issues
• Designing, automating and executing unit and system tests
• Using agile methodology, which underpins the Development process
• Using a framework of published standards and practices within the company
• Collaborating with colleagues in Design, Architecture and Product Management
• Contributing to our technical tools infrastructure
• Researching new technologies
• Influencing process improvements

LOCATION

The role is Harrogate based which employs a hybrid model of part office and part home working. You will be required to spend a minimum of two days per week working from the office, although you can work in the office more frequently if that is your preference. The rest of the time can be spent working from home.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

• It is important that you have a passion for high-quality software
• Experience in writing software code in an object oriented language
• Analyzing and solving problems
• Understanding of software applications design and structure
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Able to clearly communicate ideas
• Resourcefulness in getting over problems
• You will be an undergraduate in Computer Science or a Scientific based subject
