Software Test Analyst

Are you an experienced Software Test Analyst, who can make sure our software updates and changes are ready to be used by our people?

Contract: permanent

Salary: £52,000 to £60,000

Location: London, Docklands – Currently our entire team is working remotely however from September we will be introducing our new hybrid way of working – a split between remote and office working. There will be an expectation that we will gradually return to the office, and from 1st January 2022, we will have fully established our new hybrid way of working, with us all working at least four days in the office across the fortnight. At the Financial Ombudsman Service, we make decisions on a range of complex and difficult issues. Every year we resolve hundreds of thousands of disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers – and if we believe a customer hasn’t been treated fairly, we can step in to put things right.

The testing (QA) team play an important role in supporting, developing and providing solutions for our corporate applications – enabling us to effectively deliver services to our customers and staff. As a software test analyst, you’ll deliver technical testing using both manual and automated techniques on the systems we run, making sure they are developed at a high level of quality, on a project by project basis.

You’ll be involved in working on new features and updates to a range of applications, working with colleagues in the development teams, as well as wider stakeholders, to uncover and resolve bugs before they can cause issues for our customers. Working as part of an agile development team you’ll be involved in more than just testing – you’ll be part of a team effort to achieve agreed sprint and release goals.

Ultimately your role will be crucial to ensuring our business-critical applications are robust and fit for purpose , so you’ll need to play an active part throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Minimum Criteria

• Having previous experience testing software in a fast-paced environment that’s based on Agile methodology – ideally testing across a range of technologies
• Extensive testing experience incorporating unit, system, user interface, acceptance and, integration testing
• Automation knowledge and experience
• Minimum of 2 years relevant SDLC and/or Validation work experience with at least 1 year of experience utilizing an Agile SDLC methodology
• Developing test automation capabilities

Desirables

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or the equivalent work experience in a software development, software testing, or technical writer role
• Testing knowledge of Dynamics CRM, SharePoint or similar applications
• Experience of test management tools (Microsoft VSTS/Azure DevOps preferred)

Working hours – full time is 35 hours a week. You’ll agree your working pattern with your manager.

The purpose of your role

The Business applications team play an important role developing and supporting our business applications, in turn enabling us to effectively deliver services to customers and colleagues. As a software test analyst, you’ll deliver technical testing using both manual and automated techniques on the systems we run, making sure they’re developed at a high level of quality, robust and fit for purpose.

You’ll be involved in delivering new features and updates for a range of applications, with accountability for policing the quality of the code that is developed. Working as part of a close-knit team, you’ll be responsible for working with colleagues to achieve agreed sprint and release goals, in turn helping us progress along our change roadmaps.

You’ll also be working with colleagues to enhance our test automation capability, develop skills and gain understanding of best practices across a variety of technologies.

• Ensuring you and your wider sprint team delivers quality code
• Protecting production environments from any new issues caused by a release
• Providing technical insight to sprint and release planning, working hand in hand with developers and BAs to ensure robust plans are put in place
• Working with software developers on setting up new frameworks and test automation solutions
• Working with Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO or VSTS) to manage source code, covering the applications’ lifecycle
• Testing across a range of applications
• Agreeing and recording the appropriate hours and story points of development time – making sure you deliver on expectations for how long testing will take
• Working with the wider IT team of developers, architects, administrators and the team leader to address daily issues
• Working with our agreed technical and non-technical processes for delivering changes and fixing issues
• Providing analytical thinking to deal with any technical problems –together with your manager / team leader, you’ll be making crucial decisions every day on the best way to implement changes

Your experience includes…

• Having previous experience testing software in a fast-paced environment that’s based on Agile methodology – ideally testing customer relationship management (CRM) software
• Installing and managing test environments
• Building strong working relationships with external clients (3rd party vendors), project teams, end users and developers
• Developing test automation capabilities
• Demonstrate strong understanding of Object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and clean code concepts to develop high quality coded tests
• Extensive testing experience incorporating unit, system, user interface, acceptance and, integration testing
• Thorough knowledge of structured test methods and processes with awareness of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Experience of test management tools (Microsoft VSTS/Azure DevOps preferred)
• Having good knowledge of automation testing and techniques and evidence of implementing them
