Summary of Position: This classroom assistant supports the primary course instructor delivering Ferris courses in the high school setting. Typically they will be employed by the local school district and be state certified in the discipline they are aiding local students. The course content support may include working with students individually or in small groups. Specific duties will vary depending upon the course subject and delivery modality. Location for this position is the Creative Technologies Academy in Cedar Springs, Michigan.

Position Type: Staff

Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience: Classroom assistants must be employed by the high school, the career and technical education center, or intermediate school district in which they will work to ensure the necessary criminal background checks have been previously completed. Ferris may conduct their own criminal background check as current hiring policies dictate. Experience working with high school students. Experience fostering positive relationships with students and others in a learning environment.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Preference will be given to applicants that are state certified in the discipline in which they will assist students.

Bachelor’s degree in the discipline in which they will be assisting.

Professional teaching certification

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Support instruction of course content and provide support to students individually or in small groups.

• Effectively communicate and coordinate with the Ferris faculty or adjunct instructor to assist in the execution of lesson plans.
• Observe and assess each student’s progress through assessments and be aware of students who need more one-on-one guidance.
• Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
• Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
