Land Survey Student Intern

Farr West Engineering (Farr West) is a growing, prominent civil engineering firm with offices in Reno and Elko, Nevada that specialize in water and wastewater utility engineering and water resources. Our clients are primarily municipal utilities in northern Nevada and around Lake Tahoe. Farr West provides a friendly work environment and offers competitive compensation which will be determined based on ability and experience. We are looking for a part time Land Surveyor student intern to work with our survey department.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Split time between Field surveying as part of a crew and office work including data processing and mapping.

o Includes training and use of drone, optical and GPS equipment.
o Includes staking construction sites.
o Includes use of AutoCAD and other software.
o Includes property research.
o Assist in the maintenance of equipment.

Certificates, licenses, registrations

Must be working towards a Land Survey Intern Certificate.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Job knowledge, skills and abilities

Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.

Ability to learn survey instruments including GPS, total stations, levels, handheld calculators, and computer applications including AutoCAD, email, word processing, spread sheets and survey coordinate geometry software.

Ability to cut brush using chain saw or machete; ability to dig with a shovel or digging bars; use of jack hammer and sledgehammer; ability to walk and hike through rough terrain, snow, and ice; periodically lift between 30 & 50 pounds; driving in stakes and rebar (monuments). May need to work at remote sites.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but on occasion, loud.

Some travel will be required.
