• The successful candidate must be willing to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
• Subject to the public health advice in place from time to time, the successful candidate will be required to attend the FWO offices regularly and, may be required to attend other locations. About the team

The People Branch is responsible for centralised human resources services to the Fair Work Ombudsman. The Branch develops and implements a range of people strategies and services across the agency that drive high performance, and an inclusive and attractive place to work.

Our Pay Team provides fortnightly pay processing for approximately 850 FWO staff as well as managing the payroll function for the Registered Organisations Commission and the Australian Building and Construction Commission.The team also responds to enquiries in relation to employee pay and entitlements.

Typical Duties

The duties of this role include, however, are not limited to:

• Leading a small team to ensure timely, accurate payroll services
• Interpreting and ensuring compliance with legislation, administrative frameworks, guidelines, regulations and Government policy
• Resolving complex pay problems and using these opportunities to coach and develop team members
• Working with colleagues to identify and implement efficiencies and process improvements across the Payroll, Data and People Services function
• As a leader in the People Branch, contributing to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of initiatives, policies and programs in Payroll and across the branch more broadly
• Supporting and implementing change, managing ambiguity and promoting continuous improvement
• Establishing and fostering internal and external stakeholder relationships, including with the Service Delivery Office (SDO).

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated practical experience leading a payroll function within the Australian Public Service (APS) and sound working knowledge of payroll software (SAP or SuccessFactors preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to balance people leadership while ensuring payroll accuracy.
• Experience in successfully leading and developing a team to achieve results that support strategic objectives.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively, sharing information and recognising the contributions of others.
• Excellent communication skills, including experience communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Delivery-focussed with a demonstrated ability to manage competing demands, think analytically, be pragmatic and make sound, timely decisions.
