InterPro is one of the leading databases for protein classification and identification of functionally important domains and conserved sites. It integrates predictive models, describing protein families, domains, and sites, from over ten specialized databases. InterPro is part of the Sequence Families group, which is led by Alex Bateman.

You will have the opportunity to contribute towards implementing new features in the InterPro database resources, and ensuring the timely release of InterPro and InterProScan.

Your role

In this role you will contribute to the development and maintenance of the InterPro resource and InterProScan software. You will be a part of the development team that maintains the InterPro resources and InterProScan software and executes the analysis pipelines that underpin these services.

The core responsibilities involve designing, developing, testing, and documenting the new version of InterProScan (in Python), while maintaining the current version of InterProScan (Java)

You Have experience with:

• Python
• Java
• Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Git, Github
• Unix/Linux
• Jira
• Practise an Agile software development philosophy (Scrum).

You might also have

• High-performance computing environments and job schedulers (LSF, SLURM)
• Cloud technologies, including Kubernetes, Docker, and Singularity
• NoSQL technologies
• Bioinformatics and biological resource development
• Postgraduate degree in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or a related discipline

Benefits and other contract information:

• Grading: Depending on experience and qualifications monthly salary for grade 5 (£2,882) or grade 6 (£3,224) after tax + other paid benefits (UK Equivalent £45,681 – £71,975 per annum – depending on grade offered and family circumstances)
• Contract duration: The position is for 3 years.
• Financial incentives: Monthly family allowance of £243, monthly child allowance of £293 and non-resident allowances (depending on circumstances upto £496. Annual salary review, pension scheme including 17% employer contribution, death benefit, long-term care, accident-at-work and unemployment insurances
