What will my role look like?
Our Finance Department is expanding! As the business continues to expand and grow, so does the requirement for additional tax submissions across all territories. As a large multi-national business, we are subject to a high level of scrutiny from tax authorities. This has resulted in the need for an assistant in the tax team based in Blackburn, who can provide support to undertake some of the data-focused workload, currently prepared by the VAT manager, and to provide ad-hoc direct tax support.
With a business-wide focus on improving processes and internal systems, an additional tax team member is required so that existing compliance and financial reporting processes can be improved.
The indirect tax team in Blackburn currently prepares, reviews and submits VAT returns in 10 jurisdictions, as well as other statistical submissions such as Intrastat and EC Sales Lists. The direct tax team oversees all annual corporation tax filing obligations across the various territories, prepared by local tax managers and external providers, and prepares the group consolidated tax workings for inclusion in the group accounts and annual report.
As an assistant in the tax team you will primarily be responsible for working with the VAT manager to provide assistance with the day-to-day VAT affairs of the business. You will also provide support as required to the direct tax team.
The role will provide a broad range of tax experience in a truly international and dynamic business and therefore offers a great opportunity to develop your tax knowledge. EG also offer various support programs to obtain relevant accounting and tax qualifications if the successful applicant wanted to further extend their tax technical knowledge. The successful applicant must have attention to detail, along with the ability to manage time and meet deadlines, guided by managers.
What would my main responsibilities be?
Provide assistance to the tax team in the UK and Europe
Running reports in SAP
Using SAP/Excel to search for relevant data
Build and maintain relationships with key finance personnel across the business
Provide assistance in completing VAT returns, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat returns
Assist in VAT audits
Provide support with other related tax compliance duties
Got what it takes?
The role does not require tax technical qualifications, but a knowledge of general accounting principles within shared services is essential. Experience of SAP would be beneficial.
Working knowledge of Excel and SAP (or similar) is desirable
