Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Portfolio Underwriter for an exciting new role within our Underwriting team. You’ll be responsible for helping to optimise customer outcomes and profit across esure’s range of non-core products and services.

With a growing understanding of the insurance marketplace and the future direction of travel in this space, you’ll contribute to the development and implementation of our product strategy. You’ll work closely with teams across the business to improve performance and build market leading solutions for our customers.

What you’ll do:

• Support customer and internal projects and programmes relating to a portfolio of products and services.
• Maintain an understanding of the current and emerging opportunities and risks from all segments covered by this position.
• Use of company, industry, regulatory and technical knowledge to drive profit, efficiency and customer outcomes maximise esure’s competitive edge.
• Input into the development and delivery of product roadmaps and market penetration projections.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of our product strategy, incorporating the identification of potential business opportunities and threats.
• Support the design or redesign of our products to ever changing customer needs.
• Maintain an appropriate underwriting footprint via appropriate pricing, aggregator filters, underwriting rules.
• Keep up to date with changes in the market, including competitors/distributors. Undertake competitor product reviews.
• Input into reinsurance programmes, enabling a clear understanding of the portfolio and impact on the risk profile.
• Devise rules and analyse output of underwriting tools to detect and remove unwanted, suspicious and potentially fraudulent business.

Qualifications

What are we looking for?:

• Underwriting experience across a portfolio of products and services in a regulatory industry.
• Understanding the delivery of profitable business through management of risk mix and underwriting performance.
• Knowledge of the digital, direct telephone, online and aggregation distribution channels and their separate customer and risk profiles.
• A growing understanding of underwriting and trading using current technologies including machine learning and optimisation.
• Ability to identify and anticipate potential business opportunities/threats.
• Growing knowledge of the regulatory and legal framework within which the personal lines market operates.
