eSmart Networks Looking for Electrical Engineering Placement Student at Belfast Full Time

We are looking for student engineers to join our rapidly growing team. This is an extremely exciting role for a student engineer as you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and ground-breaking projects that are happening across the UK power sector as we lead the way on large scale EV charging and renewable projects.

You will be appointed to an experienced Power Industry Electrical Engineer who will be your manager and mentor, you will also work with (and learn from) various technical teams across our business.

You will be mentored through a tailored development plan, with learning and development targets to ensure that you progress your own knowledge, experience and learning. Successful progress will make you an extremely employable engineer within the UK-wide power sector.

You will initially be working remotely from home however you will be a member of the technical team that establishes a new office and technical hub in Belfast. You will work flexibly from the new Belfast office, when established.

The following is a list of the key activities that you will support our engineers with while gradually progressing and learning for your own development:

The Role

Location: Northern Ireland- Initially based at Home/Remote with the expectation of transitioning into a flexible hybrid-work arrangement in late 2021 (where the working week would be split between a new Belfast office and Home/Remote)- subject to COVID restrictions.

• Attend meetings with network companies, customers and our engineering teams- supporting our engineering teams.
• Supporting with Powerflow studies and grid assessments using IPSA (formal training will be arranged followed by on the job training from our experienced engineers)
• Supporting our engineering teams in a range of electrical design related activities and learning from them as you do so. This includes 11kV, 33kV and 132kV electricity networks across the whole UK.
• Supporting and helping with the establishment of a new office and technical hub in Belfast
• Liaise with and relay technical information to customers and network companies (under the guidance of our engineering team)
• Learn to use GIS software with the aim of taking responsibility and ownership of a new GIS project (further detail will be provided- you will be supported by professional GIS consultants)
• Organising and attending key meetings and engagements with various stakeholders on large infrastructure projects

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong problem-solving skills
• Strong general IT skills (extensive training will be provided for advanced IT programs such as powerflow software, however you will be expected to become quickly familiar with basic programs such as Excel, Word and Teams)
• Effective communicator
• Self-starter and able to work independently
• Highly organised with attention to detail
• Extremely motivated and ability to work flexibly
• Keen interest in renewables or electric vehicles will be an advantage

Experience & Qualifications

• Student of a degree which encompasses Electrical Engineering
• Currently studying modules relating to the electrical power sector
• Evidence of part time work experience in an unrelated sector may be an advantage
• Demonstrate knowledge of/strong interest in power networks, renewable energy and/or electrification of vehicles
