Minimum Qualifications:

• Ohio Educator License in English Language Arts Education
• Five (5) years of teaching experience in Primary Language Arts education
• Possess a deep and broad knowledge of early literacy content, expertise in using and helping others use effective instructional practices aligned with research.
• Successful completion of the AIM Course for Structured Literacy
• Successful completion of Ohio Department of Education trainings aligned to structured literacy facilitation
• Working knowledge on current best practices and instructional materials
• Ability to evaluate instructional methodology related to Ohio ‘s content standards and science of reading information
• A record of collaboration in the professional community
• Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications.
• Ability to work with various constituencies including classroom teachers, principals, district administrators, regional service providers and Ohio Department of Education staff.
• Knowledge of adult learning theory.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines with minimal direction.

Reports to: Director of Literacy and Learning

Job Objective: The Foundational Literacy Specialist position fulfills three roles in collaboration with members of the Center for Achievement and Leadership: Consultant, Coach and Facilitator. As a Consultant, the specialist will assist districts with options for targeted instructional practice and additional intervention strategies As a Coach the specialist works with districts and teachers to identify areas of professional need and provides resources and strategies to address these. This specialist can provide model lessons and assist with planning lessons and units. In addition, the specialist can assist with securing materials, resources, and data. As a Facilitator, the specialist can provide professional development for teachers and administrators which address curriculum development, teaching strategies, trends, and data analysis.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations; however, the list below is not ranked in order of importance.

• Works in collaboration with the Director of Literacy and Learning and other members of the Center for Achievement and Leadership
• Constantly seeks out new resources
• Deeply knowledgeable in reading acquisition and up to date on all professional trends in the instruction of English Language Arts
• Assist teachers in building their pedagogical knowledge in the area of reading acquisition and brain based strategies
• Focuses conversations with teachers on how students learn
• Assist with the evaluation of programs and provide recommendations on curriculum, materials and instructional pedagogy
• Customize professional development based on district needs and wants
• Assist in the evaluation of student learning data, utilizing the data support staff within our agency
• Offer technology resources to support teaching and learning
• Work effectively with other Agency staff to support the work with districts and schools
• Perform all other duties as assigned by superintendent or designee

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $90,000.00 per year
