JOB TITLE: Toolmaker/Moldmaker
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
RESPONSIBLE TO: Engineering Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: Prepare plastic injection molds and or silicone molds for production. Work with production and engineering on improving and resolving mold problems. This consists at times of performing part number changeovers from assembly drawings, cleaning, complex assembly, complex repair and trouble shooting and performing visual inspection on molded product to assure good mold maintenance was performed. Inspect and prepare tooling to be installed into mold which means being proficient in all shop equipment and heat-treating techniques.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Analyzes and corrects complex plastic injection mold or silicone mold malfunctions to assure mold will produce acceptable parts.
2. Responsible for improvements, major repairs or ECNs to the molds
3. Recommends changes in tooling design, under approval of engineering, to improve such factors as fit and condition of mold to produce a quality tool.
4. Communicates with vendors and tool suppliers on tool related problems.
5. Fits and assembles component parts into mold cavities and verifies dimensions, alignment and clearance.
6. Studies blueprints, determines machining operations necessary and determines proper sequence of operations considering such factors as type of metal, shape of metal, size of part, finish requirements and machining time.
7. Ability to condition new molds.
8. Fabrication and hand fitting of mold tooling.
9. Inspection of the cores/cavity shut offs to verify proper seal offs.
10. Verification of fits and functionality of all moving/sliding components
11. Inspect and review critical features/dimensions of mold frames and hot runner systems.
12. Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing tooling and processing/machining methodologies
13. Implementation of quality and safety improvements in training for tool room team.
14. Ensures ISO and safety standards are adhered
15. Drives continuous improvement
16. Understand and execute all plant policies and procedures.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for identifying quality problems in tooling.
2. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers.
3. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
4. Ability to operate a personal computer including using a Windows based operating system and related software. Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Mastercam and basic knowledge of solid works.
5. Good housekeeping and safe working habits.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1. EDUCATION: Trade school graduate and certification (Journeyman) as tool or injection mold maker or a combination of experience and education.
2. Experience: 10+ years’ experience in an injection molding operation
3. Familiar with plastic injection and / or Silicone mold assembly, manual inspection, mold design, and other relevant machining technologies
4. Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints.
5. Advanced knowledge of milling machines, surface grinders and related shop equipment.
6. Advanced knowledge of precision measurement devices.
7. Advanced knowledge of tool design and understanding of fit and function of mold components
8. OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess good written and verbal communication skills with our internal and external customers. Basic knowledge of equipment. Advanced ability to read prints and use measuring equipment along with advanced math skills.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires continuous lifting of 1 lb. – 10 lbs.
2. Requires frequent lifting of 11 lbs. – 35 lbs.
3. Requires occasional lifting of 36+ lbs.
4. Requires continuous standing.
5. Requires occasional bending and reaching.
6. Continuous mental and visual attention associated with operation of machinery.
7. Standing and moving between multiple pieces of equipment required for shift duration.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Protective eyewear be worn by every employee working in the tool shop, maintenance area, mixing area or working with hand tools or machinery
2. Safety shoes are required in shipping and receiving, tool shop, maintenance shop and anyone using a hoist.
3. Hearing protection not required, but strongly recommended.
4. Proper ergonomic practices must be used at all times.
5. Adherence to all OSHA regulations and the EPTAM Precision’s Employee Safety Manual is required.
