Refinery Operator

Quincy, MA

Summary – A refinery operator mans a computerized control system on one or more of the refinery systems (Hydrolyzer, Fractionator, O/S, Stills, Evaporation Trains, Glycerin Refinery and other ancillary systems) to safely produce quality fatty acids per customer specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Start up the process turning valves, moving handles, working overhead, observing display screens and making other various moves to bring product into proper specification.
• Use computerized control systems and manual valves to control process and production.
• Draw product samples and conduct laboratory tests for various chemical properties such as Iodine Value, Color, pH and others. Run test on Gas Chromatographs.
• Enter laboratory test results and document observations on Quality Window.
• Perform an emergency equipment shutdown per safety permits and know when it is necessary.
• Perform regular routine safety inspections that are assigned mitigating hazards or ing identified hazards to management.
• Perform cleanup of assigned area using shovels, mix T’s and other tools.
• Enter production data and end of shift information (usage and production) into SAP.
• Perform visual/physical on-site machinery and/or equipment inspection twice a shift.
• and notify any defects system/machineries to maintenance department /shift leader as soon as possible. Enter work orders into the electronic maintenance tracking system.
• Conduct shift turnover with the relief operator in the control room.
• Participate in maintenance activities during shutdown and repairs, joining the Maintenance team to perform inspection, installation and repairs as needed.
• Support and participate in Maintenance and Engineering teams problems.
• Perform Lockout Tag Out and Isolation of systems as required.
• Support and assist in the training and education of other employees as requested.
• Support the Company principles of Safety, Compliance, Quality, Cost and KPI’s.
• Perform other duties as requested or required.

Communications –Effective, timely and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from Regulatory Agencies is essential.

Work Hours – This is a full-time position.

• 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. work hour schedule. This is a 7-day continuous schedule.
• Training to take place on the day shift for up to 4 months/ 40 hours a week schedule
• Current hours and days of work may change based on the business need.
• Overtime hours will be necessary to cover for holidays, vacations, sick time, etc.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Ability to be reached by phone or beeper during off shift hours in case of scheduling or emergency need.
• Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated basic computer knowledge– Office.
• Must be able to work variable hours and OT as necessary. Dependable and able to work independently.

Preferred:

• SAP experience a plus.
• OSHA Trained and certified.
• Read P&ID’s and schematics.
• Minimum of 2 years related experience preferred.
• Familiar with basic hand tools and power tools.
• Prior manufacturing and/or refineries experience a plus.
• Able to obtain TWIC certification. (Biometric identification card to gain access to Port Facilities.)

Physical Demands & Requirements

• Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to all weather conditions.
• Push, pull, lift and/or move up to 65 pounds.
• Require the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and may take place in confined spaces.
• Duties involve frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects up to 65lbs.
• Must be able to frequently climb ladders to access mission critical operating equipment and obtain product samples. Some towers are over 100 feet tall.
• Must be able to clearly view and inspect mixers/pumps located 12-14ft below an elevated tank platform.

Pay: $24.00 – $45.00 per hour
