Entergrid Hiring for Nodal Trader Job at Lafayette, CO Full Time

Entergrid is looking for a Nodal Trader to add to our quickly growing team. The Nodal Trader will be responsible for trading FTRs and/or daily congestion on the various markets in which we participate. To do this the candidate will participate in developing and performing analysis to identify short and long-term congestion in the various RTO markets. The candidate must have business knowledge covering both the theoretical and practical implications of power flow analysis, market modeling and forecasting. We make heavy use of optimal power flow models to assist with understanding the grid. Hence the candidate should be able to build, calibrate and leverage optimal power flow model outputs to assist with understanding congestion. A detailed understanding of the energy market rules, system planning, expansion studies and power system operations in one of our key markets is crucial. The candidate should have a proven track record of profitable trading experience in any of the North American markets. Most importantly, candidates should have a desire to work in a small-company environment, using models and software to solve hard problems.

If you have experience in doing transmission planning/modeling in an ISO, utility, IPP, renewable developer, trading firm or consulting firm but less experience trading directly, then we still encourage you to apply.

This job is in the Lafayette, Colorado office (close to Denver and Boulder). We have a strong preference for being onsite. But, depending on the candidate, the location may be remote. If the location is remote, travel to Lafayette, CO to connect with the team will be required approximately every six to eight weeks. We have a vaccine mandate for being in the office.

Activities:

• Trading FTRs/CRRs and Virtuals in auctions and daily markets

• Performing detailed analysis of congestion in nodal markets

• Running and calibrating optimal power flow models to help with understanding congestion (eg: UPLAN/Dayzer/PowerWorld)

• Research and modelling of electricity market supply, demand and grid congestion fundamentals for daily trading and to assess longer-term trends

• Developing portfolio pricing and risk models

• Participate in meetings at the RTO(s) to foster a detailed understanding of the upcoming operational changes that might affect portfolio performance

Qualifications:

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Energy Economics, Statistics, Finance or other related, quantitative fields.

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in electricity markets in a consulting, commercial, engineering role or experience at an ISO

• Prior nodal trading experience (speculative or hedging) FTRs / CRRs /TCCs

• Expert knowledge in the market rules in one or more of our key markets (MISO, PJM, CAISO, ERCOT, SPP, NYISO)

• Demonstrated experience with Optimal Power Flow (OPF) models and wholesale electricity market simulation tools (e.g., Dayzer, Powerworld, Gridview, PSS/E, PROMOD). Relevant academic experience can be substituted in lieu of work experience.

• Proficiency with programming tools such as python, R and SQL or other analysis supporting programming tools is desired
