JOB PURPOSE:

The Assistant Director for Programming and Educational Activities will oversee, develop, and implement a wide array of appropriate and innovative programming for unaccompanied children 13 to 17 years of age.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and implement the strategic vision for diverse and age-appropriate programming and education offerings/activities for migrant youth.
• Select, organize, and implement appropriate programming curriculum, systems design, and/or teaching/instruction methods and models appropriate to the population.
• Ensure appropriate and objective supervision, support, and instruction of programming and educational staff.
• In coordination with other departments and approved information systems collect data, track outcomes, and perform program evaluations
• Establish, maintain, and set expectations for programming partners or sub-contractors.
• Assure compliance with all applicable U.S. Government and organizational policies.
• Work in collaboration with facilities, food service, and other operational partners.
• Assist in the selection of specialized support staff for the population.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• Master’s degree in education

EXPERIENCE:

• At least 8-10 years of experience creating and leading education programs, developing and disseminating content and curriculum, and building and managing partnerships

LICENSES:

• Have a current teacher certification.

WORK LOCATION:

• In-person at Pecos children’s center.

OTHER: Operational needs may require occasional evenings or weekend supervision. Able and willing to travel 25% of annual time

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

COMMUNICATION: Fluent English and Spanish language skills are required. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means.

COMPOSURE: Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations.

COMPUTER: Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel; PowerPoint and Access a plus.

DECISION MAKING: Ability to think analytically and evaluate the impact of programming and educational activities. Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate and create solutions to work-related problems.

TECHNICAL: Knowledge of clinical services and community resources.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Orientation: 5 hours

On the Job: 6 months to one year

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDS:

Multi-line telephone, computer, ten key calculators, printers, copiers, faxes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant – Ability to communicate with veterans, their family members, staff, and community/support services personnel to determine needs and actions to be taken.

Frequent – Ability to input data into computer, make calculations, complete paperwork, produce reports.

Occasional – Ability to lift, stack, load and move up to 25 pounds from varied heights.

Occasional – Ability to drive safely and recognize hazards.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoors: 50% – Office, enclosed area, dorm, tents, and residential environment; generally normal noise level

Outdoors: 50% – All-weather conditions and variable temperatures.

RELATION TO OTHER JOBS:

REPORTS TO: Deputy Director for Migrant Services

SUPERVISES Recreational coordinators, teachers, teacher aides.
